This week, I had the chance to join an aspirant programme for future Chief Executives. Walking to the location of our event, you cannot miss the presence of the Shard as you pound the pavements around London Bridge. There is nothing more warming for the soul than the practice of gratitude. So it was a great privilege to be invited today to give a vote of thanks at the Planning Institute of Australia Queensland's Inaugural Leader’s Lunch. We heard from an esteemed panel of CEO’s, Directors and leaders Scott Smith Michael Rackemann, Anne Baker Elle Davidson Rebecca Oelkers, all of who all so openly shared their personal insights and reflections of their leadership roles.    My key takeaways include:  - Leaders are human beings and we need to bring our own self, our integrity, resilience, passion and empathy to the role - Start with yes, then find a way to done - Words don’t drive successful outcomes, connections and relationships do - We need to be bold, plan for our legacy and do the right thing. An inspiring and at times, confronting reminder of the importance of living these insights each and each day.  For my own part, being a planner right now has never been so important. I would offer to you all that, we all need to be leaders for the value of planning and work together to plan and deliver great places and communities for Queensland, and right now, more importantly, more homes for Queenslanders. #planningmatters

The role of the Chair requires getting the balance right between the different stakeholder groups in the business. The NXC has a responsibility to the PE firm that they achieve the planned return on their investment. But simultaneously the NXC has to be a trusted advisor to the CEO and the management team to help the business achieve its objectives.
