Another win secured.. We at Happen Ventures faced a unique challenge that we’re proud to have turned into a success story. A chain of department stores had thousands of single shoes that lost their pairs over time. These shoes were a problem. The stores needed a cheap and green way to get rid of them. The usual methods didn't work... Discounters & liquidators only took pairs, recycling was too pricey, and landfills were not an option. The stores were stuck… That's when we stepped in. We saw a chance to make a difference. We teamed up with non-profits & local partners to tackle the issue & found a way to repurpose the single shoes. We gave them to veteran amputees and community members who needed just one shoe or had different-sized feet. Fundraising isn't the Northstar for measuring Success - Having customers pay for your solution is Step 1. Step 0 is talking to potential customers to narrow down the painkiller moment. Speaking with several founders over the last 2 weeks - a theme of building without overly discussing with potential customers came up. Asking one 'why'...they responded with "We want something to show" Having something useless to show isn't helpful, doing the research and then saying "If I fix that, how much would you pay for it?" is a much stronger use of time than building at an unclear target. Power to any founder taking the leap to build something, but if you're aiming at fundraising as a measure of success. You're going to be disappointed, or worse out of pocket and back in a job why you work out where it went wrong. We started Considered Co just over a year ago and we have had a year to remember, we have helped over 2000 customers swap to plastic-free alternatives, held various events and inspired people to live sustainably. It's been an incredible journey, but it hasn't been without its challenges. About 2 months into our business, we found issues with our building that made business very difficult. We raised our issues with our Landlord, and nothing was done. We continued pushing and raising the issue for months, trying to find an agreeable solution. Emily and I were patient, continuing to work despite the issues and trying to do what we could to help mitigate the problem. This didn’t work and what’s more, it was left unresolved. This has been a huge stress personally for Emily and me, and in all honesty, it made us resent working on our business at times. We have suffered huge financial loss and it’s come to the point where we can no longer stay in business in our current premises. We persevered, determined to find a solution, that's why we are excited to announce Considered Co 2.0. Considered Co 2.0 isn’t just a relocation; it’s a new era of Considered Co. We’re moving to a more central location in Coleraine town centre and introducing new exciting features that will elevate our business. However, we can’t do it alone. We’ve launched a Kickstarter to raise £9000 to facilitate the move and these changes. It’s a risk, but one we are willing to take to keep Considered Co going!
