Denmark is paving the way for carbon storage in underground sites, by granting permits to companies like Wintershell Dea, INEOS Group, Equinor ASA, and Orsted AS. This is both a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions and a pivotal moment in their efforts to explore the feasibility and safety of CO2 storage. Today we closed the annual conference of the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 #OGMP held at the Repsol Campus. It was a great opportunity to meet with the members of this initiative launched by the UN Environment Programme to advance in the detection, measurement, and mitigation of methane emissions. This is a fundamental step, both for Repsol and for the entire sector. We all have great responsibility to abate methane emissions along the oil and gas value chain, and only through #collaboration we will achieve our goal. Methane abatement is all about operational excellence and deployment of novel technologies. There is no reason why a single molecule of valuable methane should go to the atmosphere.   In addition to our commitment to OGMP 2.0, at Repsol we are working together with various associations, members of the industry and institutions, sharing our experience in this field. Learning from each other is essential, and OGMP 2.0 is the best place to share good practices and support those that are at earlier stages of this journey.     Thanks to all of you who have participated in these three days of intense discussions and learning. I am sure that zero methane emissions are getting closer.

Chevron and SEA-LNG member TotalEnergies, along with the shipowner and operator Seapeak have joined the Methane Abatement in Maritime Innovation Initiative (MAMII), a growing initiative designed to combat methane slip in shipping which now has more than 20 members.   According to Bunkerspot, MAMII has announced that it has ‘selected four providers to produce feasibility studies on the technologies which will reduce methane emissions from ships, and that further details will be released soon’.   Key initiatives such as MAMII and GREEN RAY have begun addressing concerns around methane slip through onboard operational measurements of emissions for multiple vessel and engine types. These projects are now looking at methodologies and pilots that support the reduction and ultimately the elimination of methane slip through the development of new engine technologies and exhaust stack abatement solutions. Examples of this can be seen in the GREEN RAY Project where Wärtsilä has piloted technologies on the AURORA BOTNIA RoPax ferry resulting in methane slip reductions of up to 56% in one of its most popular dual fuel, low-pressure four-stroke engines.   To read more about MAMII’s new members, read the Bunkerspot article linked below.   https://lnkd.in/eHn2bXdW     #shipsandshipping #LNG #methane #decarbonisation
