I’ve been in Melbourne the last few days at the Children and Young People at Risk summit listening to some incredible colleagues working with kids, youth and families on the front line. What is apparent in all sectors and systems and all states is that children are often not involved in decisions, policies, systems and matters that affect them. Why We Need a Children’s Minister in Parliament Children are one of the most vulnerable groups in our society, yet their voices often go unheard in the decisions, policies, and systems that shape their futures. At the Children and Young People at Risk Summit, it became clear that this issue transcends sectors, systems, and state borders. Despite the best efforts of dedicated professionals, we continue to see gaps in representation and advocacy for the unique needs and rights of children. A Children’s Minister would ensure that children have a dedicated voice at the highest levels of government—a voice focused solely on their well-being, safety, and development. This minister would advocate for: • Child-Centered Policies: Ensuring legislation considers children’s needs, from education and mental health to housing and safety. • Inclusive Decision-Making: Empowering children to actively participate in decisions that affect their lives. • Cross-Sector Coordination: Addressing systemic issues that fall between the cracks of existing portfolios. Our children are not just the responsibility of families, schools, or social services—they are the responsibility of us all. By appointing a Children’s Minister, we affirm their value and commit to building a society where every child has the opportunity to thrive. With this said, we as a body of professionals are calling for a children’s minister to be appointed to represent the unique rights, needs and voices of children in parliament. #ministerforchildren #childrensprivacycode #chloeshorten
Today is International World Children’s day a day where we honour children and their voice and we come to government and highlight their need to prioritise children. To make sure children’s voices are heard in all areas that impact them and their future. So today at the Informa Connect Australia Informa with many incredible leaders we started a campaign to ask for a Minister for Children. We believe if there was a specific person in parliament to represent children in all policies and practices then real change can happen. We are inviting you to share this post and put your comment forward asking also for a Minister for Children. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials are tools designed to inform and educate target audiences on specific topics, usually related to public health, social issues, or development programs. These materials (IEC) can include posters, brochures, flyers, videos, and digital content, and are often used to promote behavior change or raise awareness on key issues like health, hygiene, or rights. IEC materials are tailored to the cultural, social, and educational context of the audience to ensure effective communication and understanding. I got the opportunity to develop a few IEC materials for the world's largest Refugee Response Programme in Cox's bazar. COVID-19, Cyclone response, Fire response and some other key issues placed in those IEC materials. #ILoveRedCross♥️
