@AAIS Sorrento 2024 Marco Marino proposed the always stimulating panel called Leggere non basta. Why is the act of reading not enough to transform a literature class in a stimulating class? Why literature is perceived by students as a distant world? As a scholar and professor of literature and didactics of literature, my investigation implies at least this question: how can we transform the literature class in a meaningful experience? Maybe by experiencing images, sounds, and emotions embodied in the texts. Chandra Livia Candiani offered me an opportunity to rethink how to differently teach literature and poetry.

You've spent all this time learning Latin...isn't it time to read something interesting? For capable and seasoned students who still retain a sense of fun, this course focuses on the range and variety of Latin lyric poetry through the works of Catullus (humorous, allusive, and changeable) and Horace (often more serious, but equally brilliant). Our goal here is to appreciate the works as poetry on their own, as well as examples of the Latin language, building on the poetical foundations we began to build in Latin IV (Caesar and Vergil) Between them the two poets encompass an astounding range of tonality and temperament. The course follows the College Board’s now-extinct curriculum for AP Latin Literature (Catullus was required; Horace was selected from a list of options). While that AP exam is no longer being offered, its material remains timeless and engaging. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/g_qd92ct Scholars Online has been offering its challenging classical curriculum for homeschooled and independent students online since 2006, preparing them for college and for life through a program designed to help them develop critical analytic skills and make responsible decisions as well as master subject matter. Courses are fully accredited by MSA-CESS.

New for 2025! Fundamentals of Literature (Third Edition) teaches students not just to comprehend what they’re reading but also to analyze and reflect on it. This anthology of literary works includes classics such as “The Most Dangerous Game” and modern works such as The Radium Girls. Students will compare texts, evaluate an author’s purposes, and compare what they read to a biblical worldview framework as they engage with these selections. #BJUPressEducation #BJUPressHomeschool #2025BJUPress
