🌟 Celebrating 5 Years of Philanthropic Impact at Cancer Research @UCC On November 20th Cancer Research @UCC along with UCC Alumni and Development proudly hosted a Philanthropy Impact Showcase at UCC's Western Gateway Building, reflecting on 5 years of transformative support from Breakthrough Cancer Research which enabled the establishment of the Professor Gerald O'Sullivan Chair of Cancer Research, held by Professor Roisin Connolly since 2019. We were honoured to welcome the family of the late Professor Gerald O'Sullivan, along with regional stakeholders, donors, academic partners and patients, to celebrate our shared mission to improve cancer outcomes. Attendees had the opportunity to tour the Centre’s state-of-the-art facilities and engage with the researchers and donors driving change in cancer research, as well as the opportunity to view our newly published Impact Report 2019-2024 which highlights significant work from the centre in the past five years since the appointment of Professor Connolly. Special thanks to Professor Helen Whelton, Head of the College of Medicine and Health and University College Cork President John O'Halloran. 6.5 million euros funding from the European FIGHT KIDS CANCER program for four projects at #KiTZ focused on childhood #braintumors and the development of new #diagnostic and #therapeutic procedures. The "Fight Kids Cancer" program, supported by non-profit organizations, funds transnational early #clinicalstudies and #researchprojects aimed at improving the situation for children with #cancer. Clinical pediatric cancer research relies on international collaboration due to the small patient population, and programs like “Fight Kids Cancer“ are crucial for enabling these efforts. Prof. Dr. med. Stefan M. Pfister highlighted the importance of such funding in improving outcomes for young cancer patients. https://lnkd.in/edPnfJXi The Hopp Children’s Cancer Center Heidelberg (KiTZ) is a joint institution of the DKFZ German Cancer Research Center, University Hospital Heidelberg (UKHD) and Heidelberg University. /mg

5 years ago today, The Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO) was established with an initial pledge of $102,265,000 from the Pelotonia community. The 2,265 in that donation came from the number of Riders that participated in the inaugural Pelotonia ride in 2009. Your mission to accelerate innovative cancer research combined with your commitment to raising funds helped launch a comprehensive bench-to-bedside immuno-oncology research institute focused on life-saving breakthroughs to fight cancer at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital & Solove Research Institute. Today, the PIIO attracts the best and brightest minds in cancer research, accelerating the development of cancer immunotherapies that harness the body’s immune system to fight cancer at all levels – from prevention to survivorship. Join us in honoring this milestone as we celebrate the achievements of the PIIO and the incredible impact our community is making on Ending Cancer! Hey LinkedIns, I’m so close to my goal. I think I have 10K connections here. If everyone did $5 that would be like a lot. Oh, and it’s also for a really good cause. SWCF has been around for 50 years. 1. Our mission statement: to eradicate cancer by funding collaborative cross-institutional research to identify and correct abnormal gene functions that cause cancer. This research is the basis for developing minimally toxic treatments for all patients with cancer. We have had much success in the last 50 years by helping to develop some of the most breakthrough treatments. Since its inception, the SWCRF has funded approximately $100 million in cancer research. #cancersucks #cancer #charity #nyc

Wow! Its awesome to think about the incredible impact that this gift will have on cancer research and the many, many families that will benefit from the hard work being done here at the University to combat and treat the disease. Click in to this article to learn more about the gift and a PhD project working to develop a treatment for lung cancer by using peptide inhibitors (super interesting!) in place of traditional chemical drugs.

As an official partner of the Mother’s Day Classic 2025, it was an absolute honour for Fressko to attend the Mother's Day Classic Foundation Partner Forum this morning. Hosted in collaboration with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the event offered an inspiring and sobering insight into the tangible impact of funding on life-saving cancer research and the vital role the Mother’s Day Classic plays in supporting this mission. We heard first-hand from researchers about the breakthroughs made possible through consistent support, including treatments that are now saving lives but didn’t exist just a few years ago. Yet, the need remains urgent. Ovarian cancer, with no early detection test, continues to have a survival rate of just 49% - a figure unchanged in 40 years. Meanwhile, the number of breast and ovarian cancer cases is rising, underscoring why this work cannot wait. At Fressko, we’re proud to align our values of sustainability, community, and care with the Mother’s Day Classic. As part of our commitment, we will be donating proceeds from our sales at the MDC to help fund this critical research. This initiative is a testament to our belief that progress is only possible through collaboration, and we are deeply invested in being part of the solution. Together, we can unite, support those impacted, and continue to make strides toward a cancer-free future. 💖

Tomorrow, Wednesday 8 May is World Ovarian Cancer Day. It is a key advocacy date to bring ovarian cancer into the collective consciousness – here in Australia, and across the globe. Here are some ways to engage in conversations, show your support, donate to vital research, and advocate to your networks on this important date. This World Ovarian Cancer Day, we are proud that the OCRF is the leading independent funder of ovarian cancer research in Australia. We also acknowledge that sector-wide collaboration will be essential to prevent and eradicate ovarian cancer. It takes collective effort and strong will, together with government, industry, medical researchers, peer organisations and of course you – the Australian community - to drive much-needed step-change for future generations. #nowomanleftbehind #WOCD2024

I've shared my why for being involved with the American Cancer Society many times but I also want to share the impact: -$25 could buy one pair of primers for a chain reaction, used to make multiple copies of DNA segment for further analysis. -$50 can purchase 500 microcentrifuge tubes specifically prepared for numerous sensitive molecular analyses. -$100 could secure a one-hour time slot to use a shared cutting-edge microscope for analysis. -$250 can provide a case of culture plates, to grow human cells that can be tested for a response to a new cancer drug. Every dollar supports breakthrough discoveries in women-led cancer research. Join me today - just under $1000 to go towards my goal! https://lnkd.in/gRUz2bHG
