There are valid points in Thomas’ post here. How is it that banks, other large companies can run from standardised hardware? Central solutions for Cyber, everyone hitting top level, single group buy on devices, servers, etc. all could be at ICB level- if you have knowledgable, experienced people and good governance.
In partnership with NHS Confederation, we've been exploring the challenges and opportunities of frontline digitisation for NHS organisations. In this brand new article, Thomas Webb explores how the NHS could make significant productivity gains by standardising its IT processes. Thomas looks at opportunities for consolidation, managed convergence of systems and, most importantly, why people mustn't be forgotten in the process. On a bit of a LinkedIn roll at the moment, but this article with NHS Confederation is something I'm really passionate about. There are massive savings for the NHS in consolidation its IT and Digital estate, particularly systemically. But it's not all straightforward. TLDR: IT is much easier than digital, and funnily enough I'd say consolidating EPRs is definitely one of the harder things to attempt. There are much easier candidates in commodity IT- networks, compute and devices. But the benefits of rationalisation isn't just financial, merging siloed teams enables much more flexible teams with expanded capacity and capabilities. There's not really many good reasons not to progress this agenda. Apart from local politics of course 😊

Lord Darzi's report provides concise clarity on the challenges facing the NHS, evident to many for so long. It’s refreshing to read a report which very much aligns with our thinking. Achieving long-term sustainability, care quality, and patient satisfaction requires a fundamental shift of focus toward delivering the right care in the right setting. Maximising the potential for community-based facilities to deliver more and higher acuity care is an absolute must. That being said, and as the report recognises, years of capital starvation mean there is an urgent requirement for major investment in acute facilities. This would fix fundamental problems, like leaky roofs and malfunctioning sewage systems. But, through evidence-led design and incorporation of new technologies, it also has the potential to unlock huge amounts of productivity gains and improvements in care. As important as finding the money for this investment is transforming the structure that determines how the money is spent. Yes reform of CDEL and the business case process are a must, but so is de-centralisation of capital allocation decisions to regional and Trust level. https://lnkd.in/e9RVskyH

📢Calling NHS Providers, are you interested in group model working and collaborating at scale?📢 We are excited to launch a new report Collaborative Care: Creating Value from Scale which we have developed in collaboration with Browne Jacobson. The report explores how group working between NHS healthcare providers can help to improve organisational resilience and patient outcomes, and draws on evidence from experts with real experience of setting up group models. It summarises common challenges and opportunities associated with group working – shared by NHS hospital group leaders during two roundtable events in October facilitated by Sir David Dalton, former NHS provider chief executive – and offers guidance on how trusts can develop group models that help them to balance responsibility “at-scale and at-site”. 📃You can find our report here: https://bit.ly/3ZocMNL 📩Please get in touch if you would like to know more. ✨ https://bit.ly/4080gTj #HealthcareTransformation #NHSSupport #NHSNewOpportunities #HealthInnovation #NHSTransformation #ChangeManagement #NHSTU #NHS #BrowneJacobson #NHSGroups #Collaboration

For an NHS that meets the needs of today's society: Care needs to be integrated and community-focused (this means investment in primary care and rethinking new models of care). We need capital investment (we cannot continue with outdated equipment and buildings in disarray). We need investment in digital infrastructure And finally, we have to tackle drivers of poor health. And this will require policies and initiatives from within and outside of the NHS #NHSReforms #bbcnews

Capital is a scarce resource in the NHS – yet it’s in high demand. Existing estates are deteriorating, creating a potentially unsafe and uninviting environment for patients and staff. But with limits on funding and an ever-changing landscape for providing care, how will the NHS meet the current demands, accommodate changing needs, and continue to reduce the care backlog - all whilst providing outstanding patient care? Book your free place today and join our webinar on 30 April as we partner with Darwin Group to explore: • Which roles flexible solutions play in resolving emergency situations • How revenue can be used to help create an adaptable NHS estate • The role of ICBs in building new healthcare estates Book your free place: https://bit.ly/3Tfwsz1

Tomorrow is going to be a big day for the #nhs in signaling how serious the UK Government is about sustaining our unique healthcare service. There’s been early ‘announcements’ 💰💰to repair/replace crumbling estate 💰💰for replacement/additional equipment 💰💰to reduce the elective backlog I’m sure more will follow, however I’m equally sure that more fundamental changes are required if we are to protect the "the lifeblood of Britain" as Chancellor Rachel Reeves called the NHS. We need to work hard to: 📈Improve productivity- by global standards, the NHS isn’t bad, but we can do better 👫Address the challenges surrounding workforce, and make it easier for those working in the NHS 🗺️ Make it easier for patients to navigate the NHS 🏠Provide the right care, closer to home ☎️📲Accelerate the move from analogue to digital #Technology #data and #Design have a core role to play in addressing these challenges and need to lead the way to a more connected, transparent and sustainable NHS Mark Davies Angela Spatharou Polly Bishop Caroline Stanger Dr Avi Mehra Alexis Edwards Paul Frodsham David Bibbs
