As someone who is by nature a perfectionist this is one of the most valuable things I've learnt over the years. I used to spend hours and hours of what should have been my down time, proofing, checking, reviewing and tweaking. There is nothing wrong with having the highest standards but deciding when a pitch or a piece of work is "good enough" and therefore "done" has been key to me being more effective. And most importantly having more time with friends, family and sporting fixtures. Sport Social Podcast Network Voiceworks.ai Voiceworks Sport

Some interesting points by Richard Gillis, Murray Barnett and Yannick Manuel Ramcke from the latest Unofficial Partner Podcast episode on fan avidity: - Sports are finding they have fewer avid fans than they thought they had. That's the story of the last 30 years. - Because sports are on television, the sports governing bodies (or other stakeholders) assume the sport is popular. This is not necessarily true; with limited media distribution, people watched sports on TV just because there was "nothing else" to watch. - It will be interesting to see what happens with tennis, which has experienced a golden age in recent years with three superstars who attracted exponential attention. Watching a Djokovic-Nadal match made you a tennis fan. Will the fragmentation lead to a loss in avidity? - Not only is the content fragmenting but so are the audiences. With TV, you tapped into a built-in audience, and a sport would capture some of them. With streaming, not only is the content all over the place, creating an information challenge on where to find it, but the audience is spread out as well. Audiences do not move easily unless there is must-see content, which is limited in amount.

Recent discovery for me - The Unofficial Partner Podcast. Highly recommend it for anyone in sports marketing or trying to sell their services to marketing and comms teams at sports clubs. Good discussion around the types of content fans want to see, how to manage costs and how to measure ROI. - And this is not just for the huge Premier League juggernauts. Most of us know that Behind The Scenes and similar authentic content is what the majority of fans want to see and has a broader appeal than your local die hards. To succeed clubs need to bring in the skills to help craft narratives and the story, reacting to the way the season, transfers and games unfold. But funding Wrexham style docs is obviously off the table for the vast majority. So looking to involve sponsors is the solution. Sponsors in turn need to recognise the value in these deeper relationships with the clubs and their fan base. And I’ll be honest, this is the type of content we love making at Velvet Pig. So that’s a bonus…. #sportsmarketing #digitalmarketing #sportscontent

And that’s not just men btw, some women watch sports too and enjoy it just as much. And you know what the best bit about this behaviour is, it helps keep the beautiful sports story-telling ecosystem alive, it helps it thrive, beyond just the LIVE coverage. It makes room for podcasts, post-match shows, and addas beyond the live action you get to watch on TV or in stadia. It helps employ thousands of people in the long run, including many men and women, like me. So keep at it. Keep watching sports and sports related content. And watch the beauty of the sheer unscripted drama, unfold over and over again from myriad perspectives. #sportspr #pr #sportsbroadcast #sportecosystem #fandom #sportsfan
