5 reasons to enter an award (in no particular order): 🏆 1: Credibility - being shortlisted or winning an award instantly positions you as a go to industry leader. 🏆 2: Culture - working for an employer that's award-winning and wants to be the best within their field is extremely appealing to potential employees and a major boost for existing team members. 🏆 3: Recognition - staff whose projects are put forward for an award receive the recognition they deserve for all of their hard work. 🏆 4: Competition - potential customers are going to be more inclined to explore your product(s) and/or services because of your award-winning status. 🏆 5: Longevity - once you've won an award nobody can take it from you. You will always be known as an award-winner. And, if you go on to win even more awards, then your continued success will further compound your industry-leading status. There are organizations and colleagues you have the opportunity to work with from whom you learn every single time. As I head to the airport fresh off time with her staff team, I need to give a shout out to Michelle Mills Clement, FASAE, CAE, RCE. No one would argue the importance of values and culture when it comes to many aspects of an organization - and especially a staff team. All too often values are words that appear on paper, are rarely discussed, and only brought up in ‘accountability’ moments when something has gone wrong. If we want our people to seek to live the culture we say we want there has to be more than accountability - there has to be recognition. Michelle introduced that intentional recognition today in a way every #association should emulate. All staff were invited to nominate fellow staff who they think displayed living each value at excellence along with a sentence or two of why they were nominating their colleague. At the advance dedicated time was carved out to not just award a single individual for demonstrating excellence in how they embodied each value but to read every single nomination, that every single staff member received from their peers. That means for every value 8, 11, even 15 (!) individuals were recognized. We aspire towards that which we see recognized. I have no doubt that the memory of this award ceremony will stick with the CAR staff for months to come, and there will be even more nominations next year. The approach to recognition was beautiful, brilliant and simple. Anyone interested in the details of how to create a similar experience within their own staff should connect with Michelle. After all, if we don’t intentionally build the culture we want to see, the accidental #culture we will experience is an unnecessary gamble. #leadership #associations
