To Align or Not to Align By Doug Steimle, P. E. Walls studs and floor framing in multi-story construction. One of the more hotly debated topics in the multi-story wood community is whether wall stud and truss or joist alignment is required over the full height of a building, or whether it is beneficial to allow the framing to be unaligned. Let’s look at the advantages of each at a high level: https://lnkd.in/g3H8TDGQ

https://lnkd.in/g4GtxtQ4 We have a new video up! I was reflecting on my clients journey on their new build. The work! So much work, they had to sell their home, well, get the home ready to sell first, which included remodeling a kitchen, painting, staging, decluttering, etc. Then the qualification part which can be difficult at times with a new construction home. Then getting a lease that would allow an early termination, oh, they don't anymore, time to move again. Now to watch the new construction slowly being built, with set back after set back but finally, move in day. This video is just a hint of what that process looks like.... Let me know what you think...

“You can use an eraser on the drafting table or a sledgehammer on the construction site.” — Frank Lloyd Wright Preparation is the essential component to success in building. The plans of the build are just one component. The site itself is a canvas that nature can make “difficult to paint”. When you know what you want, but can’t make it happen on your own, that is not the time to throw in the towel. That is exactly the time to hire someone with a towel that looks well-used. Experience is everything in construction, and when that experience is local to Central Texas, it is even more valuable. Let Mill Creek Custom Homes take over the burden of planning from start to finish with your ideas in hand. The development of an executable vision is so much easier with a true partner. “Welcome to True Custom.” Welcome to MIllCreekHomesTexas.com. #FrankLloydWright #MillCreekHomesTexas #MillCreekCustomHomes #TrueCustom #CentralTexas #CustomHomesTexas #CustomDesign #TrueCustom #architecturalplans

There are many ways to do things; new construction often involves sending plans to a framing company that customizes and delivers the frames and trusses. In renovation scenarios, Accuracy is critical, and we typically opt for stick framing instead of factory-made frames. This streamlines the process and allows us to adapt to existing structures' unique challenges. During a recent half-day session, we successfully erected all the frames for a granny flat, showcasing the speed and adaptability of our stick-framing approach. Intricate details such as bracing and wall reinforcement are crucial to the stability of the structure, especially in high wind conditions. These details are engineered through collaboration with truss companies and specialized engineers who create plans tailored to each project's needs. This insight into our framing process offers a glimpse into the precision and care we employ to ensure that the frames meet specifications and seamlessly integrate into the unique challenges posed by renovation projects. Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes glimpses into our construction practices and the craftsmanship that goes into every project. #RefinedSpaceConstruction #QueenslandBuilder #Queensland #Australia #RenovationEfficiency #StickFraming #HighWindStability #GrannyFlatFrames #BehindTheScenes #ConstructionPractices

A client from North America told me about their building proposal: They are options: 1. Making beams first, then the panel deck come in. The beam and deck are cast together. 2. The building is built to the deck level and beams are made with wood using spaced 5 inches according to block size ( sizes 5 or 6 inches and these are made with wooden blocks ( this wooden is what I was asking if you have mental options just like wall formwork so that we stop using wood for beams) and afterwards the panels are put into place and the beams as well as the deck are cast together. Do you have any suitable plans to share? #plan #construction #officebuilding #greenformwork #buildingmaterials #buildingplan #WOC2024

𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐃𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 Today on The Build Review, we're taking you on a tour of a basement project in Austin, Texas. Our host, Matt Risinger, a builder experienced in unconventional projects, invites architect Steve for an in-depth review of this unique construction. In the video, they discuss the challenges of building in Austin’s rocky terrain, the importance of natural light in basements, and the use of a large sliding glass door for illumination. They also cover design details like a home exercise room and a concrete sill pan. Practical aspects of basement construction such as drainage systems, rust prevention with fiberglass ties, and the concept of ‘aging in place’ are also highlighted, with the installation of an elevator for the homeowner's long-term convenience being a key feature. While basements can be costly and slow to construct, and can sometimes lead to maintenance issues, careful planning and a meticulous approach can mitigate these concerns. #Construction #BuildingTips #Basements #HouseBuilds #Design

It may look like a familiar door style but our new THAMES WHITE’s differential is hiding on the inside. The door’s construction is more robust, heavier and sturdier 💪 A typical 35mm door is 23 Kg compared to the 12 Kg of a moulded panel equivalent. A better product that still fits the budget. #doors #housebuilding #construction
