#Edutainment does more than entertain. It shapes our understanding of the world and sparks change – and even the use of #FinancialServices. 📽💸 Programs like Makutano Junction have demonstrated this impact, inspiring 138,000 low-income women in Kenya to open savings accounts. Now, Makutano Mamas aims to inform and inspire rural women’s use of SACCOs in #Kenya. By combining relatable characters with key information on how SACCOs work and are led, this reboot can strengthen the role that vital financial service providers play in rural areas. CGAP, The World Bank Food and Agriculture Global Practice (AGF), and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) believe that informed storytelling can strengthen rural #SACCOs and encourage women’s participation in their leadership. Join us in exploring how edutainment can continue to drive #FinancialInclusion. Share your research or examples of how it’s improving financial lives! 🌱The Crucial Role of Agriculture Public-Private Dialogue 🌱 In the realm of agriculture and economic development, collaboration between public and private sectors isn't just beneficial – it's essential!. As resolution of #Umushyikirano meeting and also commitments in the Strategic Plan for Agriculture Transformation (PSTA-4), Agriculture Public-Private Dialogues (#Agri_PPDs) were conducted since last 4 years, of which the resolutions implemented has a very huge impact on Private Sector Development benefiting Rwanda Agriculture Sector growth. Agriculture Public-Private Dialogue serves as the cornerstone for fostering meaningful partnerships and driving impactful change. Like in Rwanda, where the Government aims to be facilitators and enabler to Private actors to bring innovation, efficiency, & market-driven solutions, organizing #Agri_PPDs is the way to pave a future where everyone's voice is considered for the common aspiration. However, what truly amplifies the impact of these dialogues is the inclusion of #Youth and #Women and #PersonWithDisabilities. As the future stewards of our agricultural landscape, #Youth engagement in these dialogues is paramount. Their fresh perspectives, digital fluency, and entrepreneurial spirit inject vitality and dynamism into the sector, driving innovation and unlocking new opportunities for growth. With #Agri_PPD, #Women are not just only participants but also active agents of change to bring top voices that push #Agri_PPDs resolutions forward in inclusive implementation. In harnessing the collective wisdom, energy, and expertise of all stakeholders, we pave the way for a more resilient, inclusive, and prosperous agricultural sector. Let's continue to nurture these dialogues, empower our youth and women, and sow the seeds for a brighter tomorrow. In a world where political leadership is often overshadowed by personal gain and theatrics, sitting down with Irungu Nyakera, #DDWithMaqC's 11th guest, offered a refreshing and transformative conversation. As the Founder of the Irungu Nyakera Foundation, Party Leader & Chair of the #FarmersParty as well as the current chairperson of Kenya Medical Supplies Authority, we discussed his work in both the private and public sectors and his connection to championing advocacy for farmers, youth, and community development. Some key highlights 💡 Limited support and resources for local development can be addressed by expanding #scholarships, #mentorship programs, and local #sportssupport through collaborations with local leaders. 💡 #Agriculturaladvocacy efforts that focus on improving farmers' rights and pay, addressing high import costs, and establishing the Farmers Party to prioritize agriculture. 💡 Mentorship, career talks, and #vocationaltraining to address high youth unemployment and lack of vocational training opportunities, with the goal of increasing enrollment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. These and other such insights will be featured in The Lives, Times, & Chapters of Luminaries Making Good Happen in Africa, a book featuring reflections from Leaders and Practitioners in the Development and Social Impact Ecosystem launching on the 26th of Sept 2024. Stay tuned for more details. Watch Irungu Nyakera's full story here! https://bit.ly/47lDd90 #NyakeraIrungu on #DDWithMaqC #DDAt5 #DevelopmentDynamics

Four pre-teen Nigerian girls from Jacob's Well Montessori School, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria have developed an app, ‘Agri-connect,’ to connect value chain players–Farmers, Land Owners, and Seedling Suppliers–in the #Agriculture sector to help tackle food insecurity. They had their idea pitched in a global contest hosted at the ivory towers of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), making it colourfully to the finals. They have also been awarded full scholarships to study in any of the STEM disciplines of their choices. Though, this might not seem like a novel attempt at providing #farmers with a #digital ecosystem to easily find resources and market for their production or produce, or other players finding their utility point, it has shown the Nigerian spirit of resilience and entrepreneurship, and showcased the brilliancy of our girls and women to the world. The solution promises a lot if harnessed and developed over time. I am particularly elated because of my interests and involvement in the Agriculture sector. In 2020, some folks and started out with the Smart Farm Network idea–having close to or over 30 young people of bold minds brainstorm together with a broad mission of creating what (quite unknown to us at the time, though) we hoped would be a magic in the #sector. Today, the Agriculture sector continues to witness transformations on a global scale and rural #Africa is on its race to catching up with most of these #trends. One major problem that stands tall before us here is the problem of affordability of the smart #technologies, and the potential adoption or swinging farmers’ desirability levels in the long term; and good #extension and #credit services, under effective government or privatized monitoring can level them for better farming practices in Africa. Congratulations to Team Smart Elites for standing out amongst many! 🎉 The best is yet to come 🥂 PS: You may click the link below 👇 to see the news. https://lnkd.in/dmRP5XHY #NigeriaToTheWorld 🇳🇬 #WomanPower

The Kenya National Farmers’ Federation (KENAFF) and iCRA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide top-notch agribusiness training to Kenyan farmers. iCRA, a Netherlands-based foundation with over 35 years of expertise in agriculture, joins forces with KENAFF to strengthen agricultural value chains. The MoU, signed on March 21 at KENAFF Headquarters, aims to professionalize KENAFF County Associations, enhance members' business skills, and bolster advocacy efforts at the county level. Youth empowerment is a key focus, with plans to revive 4K Clubs in schools to instill practical skills and entrepreneurship. Affordable training services tailored to specific member categories will be developed to equip farmers with essential skills. The partnership will also offer leadership and staff development programs to enhance engagement at the county level. Additionally, joint fundraising initiatives will address climate-smart agriculture, gender programming, and agricultural innovations. Overall, the partnership between KENAFF and iCRA signals a commitment to advancing agribusiness education and empowerment in Kenya. #jilisheafrica #KENAFF #ICRA #Agriculturetraining

🌍 Empowering local Farmers, One tree at a time 🌳 Excited to share our work from the Social Innovation class at WFI - Ingolstadt School of Management! Together with Jenna J., Tobias Hofner and Aleksandr Khvorostenko under the guidance of Professors Andre Habisch and Lu Bostanli we partnered with an African start-up from Ghana called Sommalife which focuses on transforming the shea supply chain and empowering female farmers through sustainable agriculture. 🌱 Our project: We recognised the great potential in Sommalife's tree-planting initiative, which not only contributes to carbon offset but also supports female farmers in Ghana. Our team developed a strategic plan to monetize this initiative by offering individuals and companies the chance to adopt trees. We developed and tested an MVP - a landing page with a dummy tree adoption Web shop - to measure the interest in tree adoption. The results were promising and aimed to provide Sommalife with a deeper understanding of the feasibility of this business proposal. By adopting a tree, supporters will empower female farmers, promote sustainable agriculture and restore protected parkland in West Africa. This journey has been incredibly immersive and educational, offering us valuable insights into social innovation and sustainable business practices. #socialinnovation #sustainability #treeadoption #femaleempowerement
