Hyde Market Ground improvements set to support community events Improvement works to Hyde Market Ground have started this week which will help create an improved space for businesses and visitors alike. The works include installing new facilities for the outdoor market and opening up the Market Ground to create a more flexible space for community events. Funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Hyde Accelerator Programme Funding is being used to progress these works in line with the Hyde Town Centre Masterplan approved earlier this year that identified several areas for improvements across the town. It was highlighted in Masterplan that creating a more flexible space for markets and events, with enhanced new planting would help open up the area and encourage more people to visit the town. Following consultation with market traders, the programme of improvements to the outdoor market facilities has now started including the removal of four of the six fixed market stalls and installation of a more flexible parasol provision with two of the existing fixed stalls remaining in place. Community Led Housing in action . The Stirchley Co op development of 39 affordable rent homes plus support for community business on the High Street in Stirchley has led the way . Others are ready to follow in Stourbridge , Coventry, Solihull and other sites in Birmingham. Will the new devolved housing funds be used to help not for profits , community organisations with the support of wMUCH, deliver on our target of 5% of affordable social rent homes over the next 4 years. We are currently on target to achieve that 5%, with support from the Combined Authority and Local authorities we believe we can double that target. These homes will not only address housing need but build community resilience , address housing need , reduce council budgets through early interventions and social impact , the road to net zero through MMC , jobs , skills , creativity and enterprise and support for local economies. The community I used to live on - Crabapple - has launched a crowdfunder to host a series of FREE introductory practical courses on sustainable living and traditional crafts, with a focus on upskilling, connecting, and empowering young people, community groups, and local residents. Even a small pledge of £2.50 can help them achieve this vision! Shropshire Council will contribute up to 60% of their goal if they can demonstrate enough community interest—so your support makes a huge impact. For example, a £4 pledge now could become worth £10 with the Council's backing! But they don’t just need donations—if that’s not something you’re in a position to do, making an account to like the campaign or sharing it with your networks would be incredibly helpful  too. Small Talk Nurseries Telford has gone from strength to strength since it launched on Dawley High Street in 2022. 🧒🏼 👏 The privately owned nursery received a start-up grant through our Pride in Our High Street programme which has helped the business transform a previously empty unit into a space where children from 6 weeks to 5 years old can learn, develop and have fun, as well as host an after school club for children up to 15. 🧑🤝🧑 Our start-up grants can help businesses to open in an empty retail unit on the high street while our start-up trial grants can help new businesses test the water on the high street first, often as pop-up market stalls. Hear how funding has helped Small Talk Nurseries Telford to make its mark on the high street. Investing in the regeneration of our high streets and increasing the diversity of independent shops in our borough towns is all part of our #20pledges20weeks action plan.
