Hi LinkedIn – it’s a long post, but please read if you may be able to help, As many of you who I work closely with will be aware, I am involved with the charity HCPT which supports disabled and disadvantaged children travel to Lourdes for life changing pilgrimage holidays each Easter. My group, 710, are a support group based within in Northeast of England. This year, the Northeast, is hosting the week with the theme ‘Angels Among Us’ and 710 will be vital to deliver this across the week. For 2025, we want to be more pragmatic and would like to secure some additional funds to allow us to subsidise the trip for our helpers and ensure that the future of the group remains positive. For reference, it costs almost £1200 to take a beneficiary to Lourdes, and almost £1000 for a helper to travel (of which the majority take Annual Leave from work to be able to travel). To do so, we are: - Organising one ‘large scale’ fundraising activity for October - Asking all our helpers to fundraise in their local areas - Reaching out to corporate businesses to ask for their sponsorship and support We have the following targets and costs that we aiming to cover for 15 of us to travel: - £200 subsidised for each helper to travel - £50 per person for uniform to travel - £250 to cover the cost of our prep weekend - £500 to support regional & group activities whilst out there. If you are able to support us in any way, we would really appreciate it. We can offer to include your logo/branding on our uniforms, provide follow up case studies on how donations were utilised, or similar should you want to support us. Wait, there's more According to the Office of National Statistics, it costs around £3,000 on average to recruit someone into an organisation. To train that delightful new recruit another £1,530 ( On average ) That’s £6824.40 per year. That’s £6824.40 per year that your favourite charity or community group doesnt have. That's £6824.40 per year that you can donate in time. That’s £6824.40 which will generate the charity cash through you upskilling them. That's £6824.40 of savings that will go towards helping charities and community groups build strong foundations, grow, thrive and support their communities in a way only they know how to do. The next time you consider a one-off fundraiser as a business, I’d ask you to reconsider. To think outside of the box. Switch things up a little. Give back to your community in a way that will make a long-term impact. You have an organisation full of employees who can build meaningful relationships with local projects needing their support each year. It was concerning to read in this recent article from Third Sector that the number of people who said they regularly gave to charity in the UK fell to 58% last year from 65% in 2019.   It’s essential for all of us involved in fundraising to acknowledge this decline and now to challenge it. To inspire more people to become regular givers, we must:   >Offer supporters flexibility in payment methods. Younger generations of supporters are used to having choice and charities who provide it will reap the rewards >Understand that someone who gives a one-off gift today, or simply wants to stay in touch with your organisation can become a regular giver in the future. What matters most is that they have a meaningful conversation that kickstarts their support >Have two-way, HUMAN conversations with supporters. Listening to what inspires them to give helps organisations learn and form better future strategies >Stay open minded about how to engage new supporters and the options available    Face-to-face fundraising is the number one most effective way of finding new regular giving audiences who remain loyal to a cause.   Over 700,000 people a year in the UK give a regular gift to a charity because of a conversation had with a face-to-face fundraiser. In case you were wondering how to Earn, Spend or Donate your Civic Dollars in County Donegal, here is a quick video showing you what to do. 1. To earn Civic Dollars go to one of the 80 earn zones across the county. Make sure to click the GO button when you walk into the park otherwise it will not be registered! 2. When finished, hit the STOP button or just walk out of the park and your session will be stopped automatically. You will earn 1 Civic Dollar for every 30 minutes you spend in the parks and open spaces. 3. Click into the rewards section and select a reward to purchase it. 4. Once you purchase a reward, the shop or business will be notified and you will have a unique code on your app as well. 5. Click into the Donate screen, and select one of the fantastic charities and community organisations from across County Donegal to donate your Civic Dollars to.
