“I’m a Senior Technical Program Lead on the Chick-fil-A Play app, which aims to create moments of connection for families with fun and unique content. Oftentimes in technology, you don't get to be a part of the initial phases of strategy and planning. It was a really unique experience for me to be part of the vision-casting for this app, including influencing the vision statement for the app and imagining game experiences. As a technologist, being a part of the product inception and design was a lovely experience that I haven't had anywhere else. Before arriving at Chick-fil-A, Inc., I worked in back-office systems like supply chain merchandising, and so I was focused more on understanding business processes and how to create efficiency. This project, on the other hand, was about creating moments for people. We asked ourselves, ‘How can we demonstrate care through technology?’ From a technology standpoint, we had to figure out the best way to make real-time content updates to the app, and to lay the technical groundwork for what this product would be. I got to work with some of our more senior engineers to lay out that foundation and understand architecture. The strategy side, the design side, the technology side: I’ve gotten to see this project from so many vantage points. I’ve been part of the whole life cycle. I never thought I’d have the opportunity to do work like this in my career.” — Kelley Hawkins, MBA, CSPO, Consumer Brand Experiences Team #Tech #Software #LifeatChickfilAInc

Every dev team has a unique culture. All technical founders know this. I call it the ‘Dev Kitchen.’ I've seen how this blend of operational style and culture shapes their work. Non-technical founders may not be aware of this, though. And that lack of awareness is actually causing friction. Great ideas get lost in translation between non-technical founders and tech teams. Launch goals move further away. Projects spiral out of control. Product quality plummets. Understanding a tech team’s culture – their ‘Dev Kitchen’ – is where I’ve found the real unlock. Find out in this video how you can tap into this for a successful product launch.

📢 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐚𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐬 𝐇𝐑𝐬, 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠. It is common knowledge that developers' responsibilities are being able to write and design code, create new software, and improve existing software applications. It doesn't matter what field or project we're discussing – whether it's meditation apps, an online petition website, games, or food tech like us. No doubt about that. But there is a crucial thing often missed by professionals themselves and those who lead them – just the code itself is not enough to make a good product 👀 It is excellent to be a smart brain and be able to solve any problem. But if there is no (or a little) understanding of the product’s purpose and value, users' expectations and needs, etc., … the product software will be worse than it might have been. Also, the more developers understand the project they work on, the more expertise and experience they have, which can boost their careers. KitchenHub began as a startup, so we quickly realized the importance of every team member staying informed about what’s going on with the product. Today, all of us, including developers, have cultivated the skills of product managers and food tech consultants 🙂 𝐓𝐨 𝐬𝐮𝐦 𝐢𝐭 𝐮𝐩: ➡ Knowing the purpose of the project ensures code meets the broader business objectives. ➡ Understanding the project's context helps make informed decisions about architecture and features. ➡ Awareness of the end-users and how the software will be used helps developers create meaningful, user-centered solutions. ➡ Delivering projects with clear business impact enhances portfolio, showing practical, results-driven work. Share it with the IT guys you know as a friendly reminder to focus on the bigger picture. #developer #developertips #foodtech #restaurantindustry #kitchenhub

Straight into my first job as a product manager, things went south during my first major release. The team had worked hard on the release of our web app and were very excited for it. During the final planning before the app’s release, our engineering team asked me for additional time to do load testing*. Being a newbie with zero experience with big releases, I instead pushed to get some UX tweaks in and negotiated less time for load testing. I had my reasons. Even though the release was huge for the company, it was intended to be a soft launch to better understand our users. We expected the app would receive only a small amount of traffic. Launch day arrived. The release went smoothly in the morning, and we were pleased with the analytics—nothing out of the ordinary. Coincidentally, one of our company’s founders received a surprise invitation to a prime-time TV show that very evening. Cameras rolled, the TV show went live. Maybe it was the founder’s charm: people got intrigued by our company mission and our application was flooded with traffic. The engineering team was off the clock and in another part of the world. In Amsterdam, I was the only technical person watching our analytics. I was thrilled! As the numbers peaked, I could see our system was smoothly processing payments, but…it wasn’t issuing the item people paid for. The support team began to receive several angry messages from customers. If you had rewound the clock right then, I would have agreed to do the additional load testing the team had requested. In the end, we managed to sort through the support messages and calm our users. The next day, we deployed a hotfix that fixed the capacity issue. I learned the importance of planning enough time for capacity testing in my future releases. What's one thing you learned the hard way at your job? *Load testing is a performance testing technique used to determine the maximum number of concurrent users an application can handle before experiencing performance degradation or failure. #shareyourstory #productmanagement #lessonslearned #careerdevelopment #worklife

🌟 Launching something new while navigating the job market! 🌟 Looking for a new product lead role is tough, so I thought I’d share my latest venture with you all: https://lnkd.in/esMzfUXq🎮 We’re launching gift subscriptions just in time for Christmas, to help answer the dreaded question from relatives: “What can we get for <insert child name> this Christmas?” 🎁 Unlike many other kids’ subscriptions, our service is fully digital and managed through your inbox, so there’s nothing to throw away - just pure game-coding fun! Code Crusaders will deliver: - 1 x High quality game making tutorial every month - Hours of peace and quiet for parents - Bragging rights for siblings, mates and teachers After receiving fantastic feedback on the frogger tutorial I posted a few weeks ago, I’m excited to announce that we’ve already seen a wave of presign-ups! 🚀 It’s brill to see so many parents interested in giving their kids the chance to explore coding through game creation. And I couldn't have done this without the inspiration I had from my time in Children's and Education at the BBC. Thanks Sally McBeth, Will Storer and Emily Angle. I'm building this in the open, so expect more updates next week. And we will be live to help with your relatives gift buying very soon. ---- While I'm building this, I’m still on the lookout for a product leadership position, so if you know of any contract/perm opportunities (or just want to chat about Code Crusaders), drop me a message! 🌟 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗵🌟 It’s been two incredible years since I started my journey at Flipdish . When doors were closing, and opportunities seemed scarce in Pakistan, Flipdish welcomed me as a POS Onboarding Engineer. But my role quickly became so much more—I was part of the POS product team, building what I genuinely believe is the world’s best restaurant POS. How do I know that? I worked directly with restaurants, observing and understanding their unique needs. We poured that knowledge into every feature, crafting a product that stands out from the competition and brings true value to the industry. When the POS product reached maturity, I was ready for my next challenge: Data Engineering and Analysis. And once again, Flipdish put its trust in me, giving me a Data Engineer role despite my lack of experience. Through their supportive and collaborative environment, I’ve been able to learn so much—APIs, Python, SQL, algorithms, and beyond. Day 2 of posting my Learnings at NextLeap Most of the time, we are surrounded by ample opportunities. But how do we choose which one is worthy of pursuit? Imagine Uber starting a gourmet meal delivery service or Netflix investing heavily in educational content production for schools. While these ideas address very valid needs, they simply do not align with the core mission of these companies. The key here is alignment with Business Vision & Strategy. Every successful product serves not only the customer but also the business. We would like to point out that we are here not to solve just any problem, but to solve the right problems that will grow the business. Understanding the "WHY" behind your product decisions ensures that the efforts of your team contribute directly toward the goals of the company. Herein lies how prioritization turns a good product into a great business success. Stay focused on what truly matters! #ProductManagement #BusinessStrategy #BusinessVision #Growth

From Code to Creation: Embracing the Bigger Picture in Tech Hey everyone! Been coding away for the past 3 years, loving the challenge of building intricate systems and cracking complex problems. It's like a constant puzzle you get to solve (and let's be honest, sometimes the thrill of conquering a bug is unbeatable). But lately, something else has caught my eye: the world of product development. It's not just about the "how" of building things, but the "why" – creating products that genuinely make a difference. This shift started with a recent project. We were building a new feature, and while the coding was fun, what really grabbed me was understanding the bigger picture. Why were we building it? What problem were we solving for users? Talking to stakeholders, designers, and product managers (huge shoutout to those guys!) opened my eyes to the whole strategy and user-centered design process. We were pouring over user feedback, digging into data, and brainstorming solutions – it was incredible to see insights turn into features that would actually benefit people. That's when the questions started swirling: How do we choose which features to prioritize? What makes a product truly valuable for users? Are we building the right things, not just building things right? These questions have become my learning compass lately. I'm devouring product management resources, attending workshops, and even snagged a couple of mentors in the field. The more I learn, the more excited I get about this intersection of tech, business, and user experience. So, here's the thing: I'm on this journey, and I'd love to connect with you! Whether you're a product enthusiast yourself, or maybe even a fellow software engineer who's curious about this side of things, share your experiences and any tips you might have! Let's chat and learn from each other. P.S. If you have any awesome product management resources, hit me up in the comments! #CodeToProduct #ProductThinking #ProductCommunity
