Rwanda: - Rwanda increased from 70% in 2000 to 86% in 2017, demonstrating the country's commitment to providing safe #drinkingwater to its population (World Bank, 2021). 2. Mauritius: - The country has achieved near-universal access to clean drinking water, with over 99% of the #population having #access to improved #watersources (WHO/UNICEF, 2019). 3. South Africa: - While significant #progress has been made in improving #waterquality and accessibility, disparities persist between urban and rural areas (Stats SA, 2020). The Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev's discussions from Benue State focused on enhancing collaboration with the Federal Government to promote Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives, particularly regarding WASH and sanitation programs. They also emphasized the need to rehabilitate dams in the state to improve water resource management and ensure sustainable access to clean water for local communities. This is a good step for all of Nigeria's 36 states to focus on ensuring SDG 6 is achieved. In 2022, about 12% of total households in South Africa lacked access to piped water and about 17% lacked access to improved sanitation services. The government's National Water and Sanitation Master Plan 2030 estimates that the water and sanitation sector requires an investment of ZAR 90 billion per year. Thabo Rakoloti, Acting Director General of NDB's Africa Regional Center spoke to SABC's Channel Africa Radio about NDB's USD 1 billion loan to the Republic of South Africa. Aquaya surveyed 234 households and tested water quality at 203 water points (137 in Communities, 46 in schools, and 20 in healthcare facilities) in Wassa East District, Ghana. ✅ Water samples from improved sources were less likely to have microbial contamination compared to those from unimproved sources. ✅ Most piped water samples did not have adequate chlorine levels. ✅ Wealthier households had safer drinking water because they were more likely to consume packaged water. **FG Reiterates Commitment to End Open Defecation in #Nigeria** The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating open defecation across #Nigeria. The government is calling for increased efforts from all stakeholders to achieve this vital goal. The Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, announced that 135 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and over 30,000 communities have attained Open Defecation Free (ODF) status since the launch of the Clean Nigeria: Use the Toilet Campaign in 2019.
