Do You Know: For the 1st time, the World Health Organization fully integrated the concept of water safety planning specifically for small water supplies, in its recent "Guidelines for drinking water quality: small water supplies"? With the twin threats of cholera and flooding incidents across Nigeria and majority of the population relying on small water supplies such as household wells and community boreholes, water safety planning should no longer be a luxury in Nigeria but a necessity. Hence, Network of Water Rights Initiative [NEWARI] is calling for its promotion and prioritisation in water supply across Nigeria. We, and our clients are facing water issues all over the world. And by 2030, we will have only half the amount of usable water we need. Today (22 March) is World Water Day - celebrating water and raising awareness of the 2+ billion people currently living without access to safely managed drinking water. A core focus of World Water Day is to inspire action towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030. At ERM we are helping our clients address their water challenges across all of our services, helping them to look over the fence line and think about how they respond to complex water challenges that they and the communities they work in face. Share your thoughts on this important issue and examples of where you are doing this. #WorldWaterDay
World Water Day is a moment to unite around water. That’s why the ERM Foundation has partnered with Surge for Water to bring clean water to those who need it most. Our Foundation is supporting the Surge For Water projects in Uganda, improving access to clean water in the African country. Water affects us all and we need everyone to take action. Today is World Water Day. Water is unarguably the most important environmental topic we should be discussing in today's ever changing climate. We all need it to live, work, recreate, manufacture goods, and feed people. Water is a resource that many take for granted, but not everyone has access to clean, safe, abundant water. See below for an example of how the ERM Foundation is working with strategic partners to help solve some of these water challenges around the globe. #WorldWaterDay #ERMFoundation #Water

Any idea on which African country has the best water quality system? 1. Rwanda: - Rwanda increased from 70% in 2000 to 86% in 2017, demonstrating the country's commitment to providing safe #drinkingwater to its population (World Bank, 2021). 2. Mauritius: - The country has achieved near-universal access to clean drinking water, with over 99% of the #population having #access to improved #watersources (WHO/UNICEF, 2019). 3. South Africa: - While significant #progress has been made in improving #waterquality and accessibility, disparities persist between urban and rural areas (Stats SA, 2020). While progress has been achieved, ongoing efforts are needed to ensure #universal access to #safe drinking water for all populations across the #continent. #WASH #watermanagement #waterquality #waterqualitymonitoring #waterforall #safedrinkingwater #cleanwaterforall #cleanwatermatters #drinkingwater

The prevailing water crisis in South Africa shines the spotlight on water governance and leadership. Unfortunately, this crisis is still going to get worse because no one is managing it. AFRICA TREND: Water Scarcity Predictions Ring True In 2005, GRID-Arendal, a UNEP-WCMC Partner, released information pertaining to predicted freshwater stressed locations in the year 2025. within this prediction, several African countries, including South Africa, were listed as either water scarce or water stressed locations. Water stressed, depicted in yellow, refers to 1000-1700m3/capital/year, whilst orange water scarce nations experience less than 1000m3/capital/year. This means that annual water supplies fall below 1000m3 per person. In South Africa specifically, over 60% of water is used in agriculture, meaning that potential shortages may have adverse effects on food security and the population’s welfare. Overcoming Water Sanitation and Hygiene Challenges in Africa: A Call to Action The challenges of water sanitation and hygiene in Africa are complex, but they are not insurmountable. It's time for a concerted effort to address these issues head-on and create lasting change. Lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities disproportionately affects the most vulnerable communities, perpetuating a cycle of poverty and ill health. This is unacceptable in the 21st century, and we must all play our part in finding solutions. Governments, NGOs, businesses, and individuals must collaborate to invest in infrastructure, education, and innovation. By building sustainable water systems, implementing effective sanitation solutions, and promoting hygiene practices, we can improve health outcomes, spur economic growth, and advance social equity. Moreover, empowering local communities to take ownership of their water resources and sanitation facilities is crucial for long-term success. This requires engaging with community leaders, fostering local capacity-building initiatives, and ensuring that interventions are culturally and contextually relevant. As we work towards the Sustainable Development Goals, let's not forget the fundamental importance of access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene. Let's act decisively, prioritize investment, and harness the power of collaboration to create a future where every individual in Africa can thrive. Together, we can make clean water and sanitation a reality for all. #WaterForAll #SanitationForAll #HygieneForAll #Africa #SDGs #GlobalDevelopment #Collaboration #CommunityEmpowerment
