One fundamental human need is to experience a sense of belonging and connection with others. This connection not only promotes health and happiness but also acts as a shield against various physical and psychological ailments.   Our personal work at TA is to seek wisdom from Indigenous traditions that can greatly enrich our understanding of community and love. During Indigenous History Month and today, on Indigenous People's Day, we continue to reflect on the Seven Sacred Teachings, a set of guiding principles deeply rooted in Indigenous cultures that offer valuable opportunities for personal reflection on fostering a sense of belonging and respect for all.   One of these teachings is Love, which calls for us to care for one another, to be kind, and to show compassion. This learning is of focus as we enter the latter part of Pride Month. The LGBTQIA2S+ community has a personal connection to us at Thought Architects, as Margie highlighted in her blog last year. https://lnkd.in/gmbD9nmf (Yes - just for an update, the "kids" are still dating!). Consider that when you lean into love, you can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone around you. This means that you are recognizing and celebrating the unique contributions, histories, and identities of those who need to be recognized most, and learning along the way about yourself.   By embracing the principle of Love from the Seven Sacred Teachings, we can work toward a world where everyone feels a deep sense of belonging and connection – more needed than ever in today’s world.   Who will you meet with love? Let’s join hands in celebrating World Kindness Day with the 2024 theme: "No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." We can use this day as an opportunity to start showing kindness to those around us. Listen attentively when someone is speaking, lend a hand to those in need, share positive feedback or compliments, and show empathy. Those are small acts in a long list of things one can partake in showing kindness to others. To borrow the powerful words of Franklin D. Today we are celebrating the people from place of love, willingness, and collaboration. People who are open to doing the hard work and engage in conversations that are uncomfortable and necessary to create a place where all can thrive. Thank you you to all who are part of our network, all who allow us to operate efficiently so we can take care of our customers. We are grateful for the relationships we have inside and outside DESCO. We recognize that the American tradition of Thanksgiving is experienced differently by different people. For indigenous people, this is the day of mourning. In the US, we are taught that this is a day of peace and sharing. At DESCO, we acknowledge that there are historical & current practices that perpetuate colonialist thinking which is why we stand on an anti-racist culture. There are actions we can take to cultivate a place for all to thrive through ongoing education within DESCO to ensure we are assessing our policies and practices.
