A recent housing project for judges in Abuja has sparked debate. While some see it as a necessary move to ensure judicial independence and comfort, others criticize it as a misplaced priority amidst Nigeria's socio-economic challenges. The project, initiated by President Bola Tinubu, aims to provide secure housing to shield judges from potential compromises. However, critics argue that it may raise ethical concerns and that broader institutional reforms are needed to address the judiciary's challenges. Reflecting on "I'm Possible" by Jude Udo Ilo, especially on the anniversary of #EndSARS, offers insights into the gradual yet impactful progress in Nigeria. Before #EndSARS, it wasn’t uncommon to hear a police officer say, "I will kill you, and nothing will happen." Today, those behaviours are rare, with stronger police accountability in place. With support from Open Society Foundations during Mr Jude's time as Nigeria Country Director, we filed a strategic police accountability suit in 2021, and in July of this year the ECOWAS Court delivered a monumental judgment holding Nigeria government accountable for #LekkiMassacre. While rapid change is always our goal, these victories remind us that change is indeed possible. #ImPossible #EndSARSAnniversary #ChangeInAction
