The term 'eco estate' is becoming increasingly popular among developers in South Africa, but what does it really mean? Andreas Wassenaar believes that the term is overused and often used to market developments where no clear environmentally sensitive development structure is in place. According to research by RainHarvest Systems, there are close to 50 eco developments countrywide that refer to themselves as such. However, purists argue that true eco estates should not introduce artificial concepts onto the landscape, allow no agricultural activity and rely mostly on nature's own landscaping. Furthermore, Eco estates should be located in the least sensitive areas of the local ecosystem and strive to offset any negative effects on the environment. They are a win-win for developers and environmentalists alike, protecting the environment and becoming a major attraction as a residential lifestyle option. You also invited to hear Chike Ayodele Igwegbe, founder of Eco Trinity Homes, share his journey on developing Jasmine Eco Estate and explore ways in which you can also integrate sustainability into your own home and the spaces that impact you.

𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗮𝘆 & 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 How can we build a more sustainable world through technological innovation? Innovation plays a crucial role in the search for efficiency, new ways of using resources and more generally in defining a new concept of 'value'. Technology enables the measurement, optimisation and control of resource consumption. This is why Earth Day is an important and special day for #engineers and all innovators: we are fully called upon at this particular moment in history to lead the evolution towards a society that respects our planet and allows us and our children to live it. It is thanks to #technology and #innovation that we have achieved every important milestone in our history and it is also thanks to them that we have realised that the way we live on #Earth will not guarantee our children to live in the same world we know today. There is no sustainability without innovation, especially at this time in history, when the greatest challenge for those in charge of the future is to build a sustainable society. Considering that a considerable part of harmful emissions and energy consumption is attributable to energy-intensive buildings, among the most important innovations available are all those that enable buildings to be made more efficient, aiming for green buildings. The challenge is to succeed in applying these technologies to the transformation and gradual replacement of current buildings with more modern and, above all, more sustainable ones. 🌍 𝗗𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀? 📽 by Going Green Media shows an amazing green building in Dusseldorf: do you like it? #earthday #sustainableengineering #impressiveengineering
