Gender Lens: I've been selfish lately and leaning long on the fact that I am a Woman. Thus, this original National Organization for Women member is back assessing daily living, barriers, needs, solutions and opportunities for deserved but underserved women and girls. At this point of my personal journey back from "Woe-man" to "I am Woman, Hear me Roar," I'm yelping about the delight of discovering a variety of existing organizations and specific grant sources dedicated to assisting Chicagoland women and girls with specific issues. One organization with active NOFOs: Chicago Foundation for Women. Advocates, there's an opportunity to apply by the February deadline for funding of female-forward charity efforts next summer. Do the paperwork, then let's sister-up for service in the field! About CFO: Since 1985, Chicago Foundation for Women has invested more than $50 million through over 5,000 grants, annually impacting 226,000 women, girls, trans, and gender nonbinary individuals across the Chicago region, so they are healthy, safe, and economically secure. Nearly four decades later, CFW continues to be the only organization in the region to take a comprehensive approach to understand and address the issues impacting Chicago-area women, girls, trans, and gender nonbinary individuals. #nonprofits #womensissues #equalopportunity #chicago #womensupportingwomen #atrisk #underserved #marginalized

Great topic. Very important to know issues and experience and prioritize what is important and to keep USA citizens safe. Line USA defense or CORRECT foreign policy to keep USA safe and out of wars. And prevent a world war. In these precarious times. With so many contrived hot beds conflict and strife and wars occurring. And protection of constitutional rights and civil liberties. And freedom of speech and social justice. And police reform. Wrongful arrests and wrongful prosecutions and wrongful convictions. And toxic abusive or false NOT NEEDED Guardianships. They are Being used along with mercenary paid for psychologists. to harm USA citizens and steal their money and property and or discredit them and defraud our government like SS. And SSDI. If we don’t have that we won’t have to worry about the economy. Nor reproductive issues.
Every time I vote, I think about those who sacrificed to secure this precious right. We owe it to them and to future generations to make our voices heard. There is so much at stake in this election—from women’s health and reproductive freedom to economic support for caregivers and families to basic democratic principles and values. And that’s just to name a few things. Study the issues, vote for what you believe in, and encourage the people around you to vote, too. - We believe with Trump at the helm, he will enact draconian laws that will outlaw abortion outright nationally as his political apparatus and his surrogates tout... - At the same time, even with Kamala Harris at the helm, an amendment to codify a woman's right to an abortion into our constitution could prove daunting because Democrats require a sizable majority in both the House and Senate to move forward... - Also, her suggestion to rid us of the filibuster (to a simple Senate majority vote) historically has proven difficult... - The Biden Administration proposed a vote by the legislature to appoint four new justices to the Supreme Court who may be amenable to the abortion issue. Many may see this as political, as when attempted by The FDR Administration; a move to 'stack' the court... Consider: 'A judicial 'procedural' upheaval; not a judicial 'political' upheaval.'... 'Solely the female justices of the Supreme Court alone must decide cases related to 'Women's Reproductive Health' for their fellow 'sisterhood' in the citizenry, while their male counterparts either recuse, or even abstain from such cases.'... empathyequalsjustice.com (Four Pages - Three Minute Read) Reference: Thomas Doyle - 'Top' Featured Post - #KamalaHarris

🛑 🛑 🛑 Did you read today's The Guardian article? It makes a very clear case that nonprofits, specifically progressive nonprofits, could be under major threat with the new administration. Recent developments signal a concerning shift in the operational landscape for progressive nonprofits: 📌 Targeting by Government Agencies Reports suggest that political figures are preparing to leverage government institutions, such as the DOJ and IRS, to investigate and restrict progressive organizations. This tactic could intimidate groups working on critical issues like human rights, social justice, and democracy. 📌 Legislation with Wide-Reaching Impacts The House recently passed a bill (HR-9495) granting the Treasury Department unprecedented authority to revoke the tax-exempt status of nonprofits it deems to support terrorism. Civil liberties advocates, including ACLU, warn this could enable misuse to target organizations based on political ideology, suppress dissent, and erode freedoms. In response, initiatives like the Civic Defense Project have stepped up to defend nonprofits against these potential abuses of power. This moment underscores the importance of unity within the nonprofit sector to safeguard missions and values. 🌟 What We Can Do: ➡️ Stay informed about these developments and their implications. ➡️ Collaborate with peer organizations to strengthen collective defenses. ➡️ Advocate for legislative safeguards to protect nonprofits and civil liberties. ➡️ ➡️ See my comment for a very thorough call to action on HR9495 from Vu Le Nonprofits are essential pillars of a functioning democracy. Now is the time to stand together, support one another, and push back against threats to our shared missions. #Nonprofits #SocialImpact #CivilLiberties #Democracy #Advocacy https://lnkd.in/d68FqTbj

Each month UK Youth pose a question and ask youth practitioners to respond so that our voice can be heard in decisions that affect us and young people. May's question is, "How can the youth sector better work together to support youth voice and advocacy?" Since this is an issue I have been active around for over 40 years, I chose to respond as follows: "We often speak about empowering young people but that doesn't work without enabling them. This requires helping them gain the communication, planning, team working, presentation and other skills they will need to effectively use their voice along with the knowledge and understanding of a wide range of issues, depending on the role they wish to undertake. Only then can they be supported to develop the structures and carry out roles effectively. Of course, once young people are in these roles and have developed their structures, they also need the financial support, either directly or through helping to raise funds, so that they can implement what they have decided to do. Ongoing support is also necessary to help with access to decision makers, recruiting more young people and being a sounding board. Ultimately it is all about setting up such opportunities to maximise their chances of success rather than likelihood to fail."

Join my friend Vu Le and I later this month (Thursday, June 27th @ 10am PT/1pm ET) as we chat about #organizational #risk and how we can #activate and #overcome as we face #retrenchment and #backlash to the #progress we have made. Rolling backwards is not inevitable and we will discuss how, as a sector, we can show up in these moments. Click the link below to register! #risk #riskybusiness #riskingitall #justsociety #commonfuture
For many of our organizations and their leaders, assessing risk might feel challenging in an environment of racial justice backlash and the ongoing weaponizing of legal and political tools against the social sector. We’re thrilled to announce the first in a series of live conversations hosted by Common Future around redefining risk. Join us for our first webinar on Thursday, June 27, at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT, featuring a conversation with Nonprofit AF’s Vu Lee and Common Future co-CEO Jennifer Njuguna. https://lnkd.in/eZk_RA6d
