Today is World Homeless Day, a reminder that having a place to call home is something many of us take for granted. Personally I cannot begin to imagine what it must be like to not have somewhere safe and warm to go home too! Working in London we see homelessness everywhere and I have seen the same people on the streets for many years and it's heartbreaking. Homelessness can happen to anyone, whether it’s due to mental health issues, fleeing a dangerous situation, or facing unexpected life changes. None of us know what is around the corner! Across the UK, charities such as St Martin-in-the-Fields Charity, Shelter, Crisis, The Salvation Army, Centrepoint, and St Mungo's work tirelessly to support those in need, offering everything from emergency accommodation to long-term support and advocacy. St Martin-in-the-Fields, for instance, provides both immediate relief through its Vicar’s Relief Fund and long-term support through The Connection, helping rough sleepers regain their independence. These organisations provide essential services like housing, mental health support, and food assistance. Whether through donations, volunteering, or simply raising awareness, we can all play a part in supporting their efforts. If you are looking for a way to get involved, today is a great time to start. Every action, big or small, can make a difference! #homelessness #charity #volunteer #donations

For the sixth consecutive year I am fundraising for Hutt St Centre's Walk a Mile in my Boots campaign. August is one of my favourite times of year, not just because I get to wear my favourite colour every day of #NationalHomelessnessWeek, but also because I am able to use my skills in #socialmediacontentcreation and #storytelling to give back to my community. There is a lot to be said about the benefits of #volunteering and #fundraising, not just for how it impacts the people who rely on the cause you’re supporting, but also for personal wellbeing. 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀: 1. 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴: Connecting with my community online and in person, having conversations and meeting people with aligned values helps me feel like I belong to something bigger than myself. 2. 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: Actively supporting a cause that is important to me reminds me that I have the power to shape the world I want to live in. 3. 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵: Watching the total miles and donations gradually build over the week helps to sustain gratification and motivate progress towards my goals. 4. 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲: Supporting my community brings so much meaning into my life and allows me to live in line with my values. Participating in Walk a Mile in my Boots also fosters my wellbeing by encouraging me to move my body, spend more time in nature and practice gratitude and reflection. When I'm giving back I feel more motivated, hopeful and generally have an elevated mood. 🧡 Hutt St Centre provides essential services for people at risk of or experiencing homelessness in South Australia. If we’ve learned anything the past few years, it’s that our circumstances can change in the blink of an eye, and we rely on the communities around us for support through hard times. This week I am walking a mile every day, and adding a mile to this target for every $100 I raise. If you would like to support my fundraiser you can donate to my page here: https://lnkd.in/g8sHMkHf #walkamile #psychologicalneeds

How to help those experiencing homelessness? 1) Don’t judge. You don’t know where they have been and what they have seen and been through. 2) Don’t just walk past those on the street. Talk to them, or smile and wave or shake their hand. Let them know you see them. 3) Ask THEM what they need. Endless charities will tell you they need x y and z. Each person on the street is different. They might need something I or you or that charity hadn’t thought of. 4) See if you can volunteer for your local homelessness charity during the winter period (and beyond - the beyond is far more important than just at Christmas time) 5) If you want to, buy something for them. During Christmas I got a team to wrap up gifts like gloves and socks as Christmas presents and we went around giving them gifts. However you want to do it - do something if you feel compelled to do so. Message me if you want to know some ideas of charities you might be able to help with. Please just remember - they are humans with problems just like ours. They need our support - all year round. Most of these things above don’t have to be done during Christmas; they can be done anytime. Help each other. #homelessness #helpingthoseonthestreets #streethomelessness #howtohelp

🚨 Urgent Action Needed: This season is hard enough, let's lend a helping hand for our Neighbors on the Street 🚨 Homelessness already presents immense challenges, but the additional strain of winter conditions compounded by the threat of losing winter survival equipment and medications, without adequate and safe spaces to sleep, can be life-threatening. On a given night, there are generally 1,537 shelter beds for individuals and 89 rooms for families in Albuquerque. Meanwhile, the most recent Point in Time count reported that there are at least 2,734 people experiencing homelessness. The situation is worsening, and we can’t stand by and watch. Here's how you can help: 💙 Donate: Every dollar helps provide critical care, from cold weather health outreach to housing support and social services. www.abqhch.org/donate 🤝 Take Action: Share this message, volunteer, or raise awareness. Your voice can make a huge difference. We have the power to change lives. Let’s make sure no one is left behind. 💪 #HealthcareForAll #HomelessnessAwareness #ActNow #Donate #TakeAction #FirstDayofWinter #SocialJustice

Teardrops, a #Merseyside homelessness charity faces "imminent closure" due to a "perfect storm" of increased energy bills, wage costs and rent. The St Helens based group helps rough sleepers by providing hot meals, clothing and advice. They also provide local schools with food and uniform for children in need. I wonder how many other small but critical charities are facing the same situation? I wonder if this issue will appear on the manifestos or the campaign literature of any of the major political parties? #costofliving #homelessness #charity #poverty #community #socialimpact #ukhousing #donations #localauthority #school @homelesslink Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Shelter NSPCC Child Poverty Action Group UK Action for Children Simon on the Streets #politics Labour Party (UK) The Conservative Party Lib Dems in Comms #foodbank The Trussell Trust https://lnkd.in/eTNBuara

November is National Homeless Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge the struggles faced by young people, families, and individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. This also includes National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (November 15-22), a chance to spotlight these critical issues impacting our communities. At BEDS Plus, we’ve seen firsthand how the housing crisis continues to grow, affecting more people in the places where we live and work. Over the past year, BEDS Plus has helped change the lives of more than 5,000 people, offering essential services, support, and paths to stability. But this mission is ongoing—thousands more in our area need support, and we are committed to providing it with the help of dedicated volunteers and donors. As we enter the season of giving, we invite you to join us. You can make a difference by volunteering or donating to BEDS Plus. National Homelessness Week 2024: Taking Action Now This week is National Homelessness Week, a time to bring our attention to the wide range of people that are impacted by Homelessness here in Australia. There is an estimated 122,000 individuals who find themselves without a place to call home on any given night. Homelessness is not just the rough sleepers you see out on the streets in the city or in their car, it includes people who are forced to move from one temporary shelter to another, such as emergency accomodation and refuges or people coach surfing. And then there are also the people who live in accomodation that falls below the minimum standards, this can include boarding houses, caravan parks and overcrowded homes. The theme for this year’s Homelessness Week is “Homelessness Action Now,” emphasising the urgent need for solutions to end homelessness. Let’s use this week not just to talk about homelessness but to take concrete steps towards ending it. Whether you’re attending an event, volunteering, or advocating for policy changes, every action counts. One of Dovetail's awesome client's REOM Real Estate of Melbourne has definitely #TakeAction. Rob Gillies kicked off an 18-hour Bowl-a-thon at 6am this morning partnered with one our Hero Charity Partners We Are Mobilise. They have already smashed their $6,000 minimum fundraising target before he started and is now going for $10,000. You can #TakeAction today and donate to their campaign and even check out Rob's progress via his #LiveFeed here https://lnkd.in/gMceG3a6 #HW2024 #CharityPartner #Fundraising #Business4Good #Homelessness
