Clean Water Champions of the Month 💪🏼🌊: Braid Theory and Cape Fear River Watch deploy DataPods™️ on opposite sides of the country to capture critical water data through the Port of Los Angeles and through the #tropicalstorms effecting the Atlantic Coast. Access to real-time #waterqualitydata is supporting both organizations ability to understand how runoff, industrial activity, and climate events are impacting the water in their #coastalcommunities! #environmentalmonitoring #pollutionevents #waterquality #cleanwater #climatemodels #oceans California State Coastal Conservancy

One of the most interesting parts of #localgov life: making climate adaptation and resilience fun. A big kudos to our Watersmart Ambassador for launching this contest to raise awareness (and a little healthy competition) about water conservation and reframing what a great lawn is. Any other neat examples you are seeing to encourage folks to be proactive on #climateresilience #waterconservation?

The climate crisis is impacting the people, places, and species that make California unique. On November 5, you can do something about it. Vote YES on Proposition 4 to support urgent investments in forest health, wildfire resilience, habitat restoration, and biodiversity protection for the benefit of all Californians. Check out this awesome blog by my colleague, Esther Oh, on the four reasons to support Prop. 4!

Ever heard of scrub clearing? 🌱🌿 We went to the Venner Moor at the invitation of Mission to Marsh gGmbH, where we rolled up our sleeves and pitched in. 💪 We not only learned a lot about the crucial role of wetlands for the environment and climate but also got hands-on, helping to clear a small area of wetland. Scrub clearance, by the way, is the removal of trees and shrubs in wetlands and wet meadows. Why is this important? It helps prevent further drying of wetlands through evaporation. Small trees and shrubs draw moisture away from these areas through evaporation and introduce oxygen into the peat soil. This is harmful for wetlands, which is why these areas need regular clearing. Seeing what our efforts - and your support through your licence - contribute to was truly inspiring! Want to learn more about our support for Mission to Marsh? Our recently updated Decision-Makers Guide for Natural Climate Solutions is a one-stop source of practical information on how America's farms, forests & coastlines can help address climate change while *also* restoring wildlife habitat, improving our drinking water, protecting our communities from storms & floods, & improving soil health– making our farms more productive. It's a powerful resource for policy makers seeking to chart a bipartisan path forward on climate policy. Explore it here: https://lnkd.in/d55hb8QE #NaturalClimateSolutions #ClimatePolicy

Peatlands are one of the most efficient and concentrated natural climate solutions. Functional, healthy peatlands provide vital, long-term natural carbon stores and sinks for our planet’s biosphere. Halting peatland degradation and destruction—and facilitating the regeneration and restoration of healthy peatlands— requires urgent, coordinated action from both the public and private sectors. #ClimateAction #WetlandsMatter

It's surprising how often the most critical issues are right in front of us, unnoticed until we delve into the details. Forests, covering nearly 40% of Europe's land, play a vital role in carbon sequestration. Sustainable land management is essential for a greener future. #Sustainability #ClimateAction #UrbanPlanning #Biodiversity
#Didyouknow that about 80% of Europe’s #landsurface has been shaped by human activities: covered with buildings, roads, industrial infrastructure or used for agriculture. The way we use land constitutes one of the main drivers of environmental degradation and climate change. Our lands are a vital resource that need to be protected. On #WorldEnvironmentDay we have a chance to reflect on opportunities and actions we can take on #landrestoration, building #droughtresilience and combating #desertification.
