As an MC or conference host, I typically have three main jobs: 1️⃣ Keep energy high throughout a busy day of content and networking (people get tired!) 2️⃣ Introduce the other speakers, making them feel comfortable to rock the stage 3️⃣ Be the red thread connecting the day’s content As an ecosystem developer for the future of food, I’ve spent years learning about the space and speaking with industry thoughts leaders from startups to corporations and investors This is reflected in my work on stage After every conference, at least one person always compliments me on my wide-ranging industry knowledge and how that ties together the day’s content They recognize that because of my expertise, I can quickly and easily 📣 connect the dots between talks 📣 ask thoughtful follow up questions 📣 synthesize what speakers are saying This makes “the show” a lot more engaging and interesting for the audience so that it 👉 the conversation goes deeper 👉 speakers feel valued and understood 👉 event organizers know the proceedings are in good hands If you’re planning an event about agrifood, climate, or aquaculture in the next 6 months, let’s talk. I’d love to support as your MC Check out my portfolio, FAQ, and booking information here: https://lnkd.in/eHa9dGZw

🌍 Stakeholders at various levels from across the global economy are highlighting the importance of considering nature in financial decisions. 1️⃣ Policy makers and regulators are responding to growing public pressure and awareness around the value of biodiversity and nature protection. 🇧🇿 For example, debt-distressed countries are starting to leverage their renewable natural capital as a way of enhancing creditworthiness. 2️⃣ The financial community is beginning to understand and consider nature as a new category of risk as it anticipates upcoming legal requirements. 📘 For example, the final recommendations from the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), which provides businesses with a clear framework for reporting on their dependency on nature. 3️⃣ Aside from top-down movement, there is also action from local people and indigenous communities that are aiming to influence and guide the creation of nature markets in a nature-positive and equitable way. 🔹 For example, the growing involvement of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in emerging biodiversity credit markets. 🌴 Since over 1/4th of the world's land surface is managed by Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, it is vital that these groups are involved in the design and governance of nature markets. 🔵 Challenges remain to shape these emerging markets to deliver nature-positive and equitable outcomes. NatureFinance explores these challenges in our paper 'Harnessing Biodiversity Credits for People and Planet' here: https://lnkd.in/e-WTzPEi Our Co-CEO, Simon Zadek, recently spoke on the NewAtlantis Labs podcast about the importance of making nature count in the global economy. Simon spoke with JJ Ramberg on a range of topics, including the key stakeholders that are pushing the nature agenda. Dandelions bloom everywhere, thriving even in the harshest conditions. Women, too, share this resilience, especially in the face of climate change, which disproportionately impacts us. When disasters hit, women are often the first responders, rebuilding homes and communities. Yet, we are also leading sustainable practices and driving climate solutions. Climate change is not just environmental, it’s a human issue, demanding justice and collective action. Now is the time for women everywhere to unite, take root, and lead. Join Project Dandelion with formidable women around the world. Together, we can build a future where both people and the planet thrive.
Can we truly outsmart the climate crisis? That was the question we explored together at Project Dandelion's TED Conferences #TEDNext session this week. Our speakers shared their unique onramps into climate action -- from Bridgit Antoinette Evans diving into 'narrative oceans' to Maya Penn's blend of creativity and sustainable entrepreneurship, their stories showed there’s no single path to climate action and there’s room for everyone on the journey. Attendees swapped insights, shared bold steps for driving change, and reflected on how their personal stories shape their approach to the climate crisis. With each roundtable report, we heard a clear message: achieving a climate-safe future needs every voice at the table, and collaboration is key. A huge thank you to all the speakers and attendees who made this event unforgettable. Together, we're not just talking about solutions—we’re building them. 💡A thought provoking piece of work has recently released been released called ‘Are industry good organisations good for industry? A reimagined future: finding the #CommonGround ' 💡 the joint piece of work by AGMARDT (The Agricultural and Marketing Research and Development Trust) & KPMG New Zealand is intended to stimulate debate and discussion. NZ is so lucky with the resources housed within our industry bodies, CRIs, cooperatives and others that support the sector. Which other industry provides a complete how-to for anyone entering their sector. Information is certainly not the issue! I think the report certainly highlights a lot of the frustrations currently held and the opportunity to discuss pathways forward. 💡Definitely worth a read and the podcasts hosted by Sarah Perriam-Lampp give a great snapshot of the intent and content of the report.

The Dutch saying is: ‘Grote stappen snel thuis’. Translation: Big steps will get you to your destination quickly. I am privileged to be an advisor of these two guys. Their startup Hydryx is developing a software/hardware soluton to optimize methane capture from landfills. Even in the comparatively well organized Dutch waste management ecosystem, the old landfills, long closed, are still emitting significant amounts of the very potent greenhouse gas methane. This methane is supposed to be run through a generator where it can be converted into energy and the less potent CO2. But in most cases the methane isn’t fully captured and the generator is idle for more than 50% of the time. Hydryx is looking to significantly mitigate that problem by implementing an ingenious system of sensors, actuators and big data software. There is significant interest from waste management companies in the Netherlands in what this young team of mathematicians, engineers, and analysts are up to. Taking their solution to other European countries where landfills contain more foodwaste (and hence emit even more methane) would be the next logical step. And taking it to open landfills in developing countries is the holy grail. The amount of greenhouse gas avoided per dollar invested appears to be staggering. I am particularly interested because I have long held the view that eliminating greenhouse gas emissions from waste management (about 4% of the global total) is the lowest hanging fruit. If you use it for energy generation it actually has a very positive business case, irrespective of greenhouse gas credits. The early signs are promising, this is a really talented team and they deserved to win this recognition. They are taking the big steps that will get us expediently closer to our destination of zero emissions.
🎉 Yesterday was an incredible day! Hydryx proudly won the Climate Tech Summit Benelux in the Carbon Solutions category! 🚀🌍 The expert jury's decision in our favour was based on the scale of the problem we are tackling, the impact we can have and the scalability of our low-cost solution. It’s amazing to see our efforts already being recognised at this level. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet with investors and mission-driven entrepreneurs, all working towards a sustainable future 🌱 Big congratulations to the other amazing winners: Carbon Equity, Mosa Meat, Maeve , iwell & BlueAlp. Onwards and upwards! 🙌✨ Thanks for hosting such an impactful event Leopold, Gideon, Paulina, Edwin & Harm. Looking forward to the next edition!
