Climate Arc ‘s mission is fueled by philanthropic funding. Philanthropy is a critical enabler of climate action, providing organizations the agility to take risks, act boldly, and further catalyze investments from the public and private sectors. ClimateWorks Foundation’s fifth annual report on global funding trends in climate philanthropy shows that Sustainable Finance, has been recognized as the fastest-growing enabling strategy being leveraged by climate philanthropy to meet global climate goals. The generosity of our funders uniquely positions us to be able to work collaboratively, and think holistically to build tools, skills and insights that can be accessed by financial decision-makers as a public good, while also building capacity across the climate transition ecosystem. 💡 Discover more about how climate philanthropy works and the report’s recommendations for further impact here: https://lnkd.in/eE6qQppE #ClimateAction #TransitionFinance #NetZero #Sustainability

🎉 Good news for climate: Philanthropic giving to climate is up 20%. 🎉 And good news for industry decarbonisation: philanthropic giving on this topic reached $130 million in 2023, up from only $45 million in 2019. 🚗+🏭 But transportation and industry together still only attract about 6.5% of climate philanthropic giving, when they represent 40% of global emissions. 🪙 For all of us working in this space, it means we are relying on few philanthropic dollars to keep 1.5C or even well-below 2C alive! Thank you Helen M. and ClimateWorks Foundation for keeping track of progress every year!
📢 Philanthropic giving to climate ⬆️ 20% Last year, philanthropic funding for climate mitigation grew by 20%—a very encouraging step up. Yet, as ClimateWorks Foundation’s latest #FundingTrends2024 report highlights, the journey is far from complete. The report underscores some key trends: -Annual foundation funding for climate mitigation has nearly tripled since 2019. -For the first time ever, we’re able to share preliminary data on adaptation and resilience initiatives, which received at least $600 million dedicated last year and is on track for more this year. -However, low-to-middle-income countries continue to face significant gaps in funding, especially flexible and core funding which is most needed. Philanthropy holds unique power: at it’s best, it can take risks, act boldly and nimbly, and catalyze transformative change. Whether through collaborative initiatives ready to deliver solutions at scale or by backing local solutions and partners who know what is needed, we have the tools to accelerate impact. The challenge ahead is clear—and so is the opportunity. Let’s meet this moment with urgency, collaboration, and the ambition needed to deliver climate solutions for all. 🔗 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gF3fEXg4

A bright spot in the giving landscape from a new report: global giving to curb climate change increased 20% in 2023, according to data released Tuesday by the ClimateWorks Foundation. This reaffirms our own For Momentum data that climate and sustainability-focused nonprofits have risen to the #1 cause type that companies are supporting through their partnership work in recent years. Astonishingly, growth in climate change giving was double giving to global nonprofits, which the report says only grew by 10% in 2023. ClimateWorks Foundation 2024 Funding Trends Report just dropped. In 2023, climate philanthropy hit a turning point, surging past $9 billion—a 20% jump from 2022—and outpacing overall philanthropic growth for the first time. Foundations led the charge, 3x more contributions over 4 years to reach $4.8 billion in 2023. Clean electricity, forests, and food systems remained top priorities, while fast-rising areas like super pollutants and sustainable finance gained traction. Public engagement emerged as the most-funded enabling strategy, signaling the growing importance of collective action. Yet, disparities persist. While funding to Africa, Asia, and Latin America grew by as much as 220%, 60% still flowed to the U.S. and Europe. The report calls for deeper, longer-term investments in regions and sectors with untapped potential, from Brazil’s pivotal role ahead of COP30 to the underfunded push for industrial decarbonization. The message is clear: philanthropy must go bigger and smarter—collaborate more, commit to multi-year funding, and scale solutions that match the speed of the crisis. The window is narrowing and we know the politics are tough but with decisive action, this could be the philanthropic moment we've been waiting for. https://lnkd.in/eYPEj9Cb

I've become a bit of a nerd for global philanthropy trends, so was very excited to dig into the fifth installment of ClimateWorks Foundation's brilliant annual #FundingTrends piece 🤓 Some of the key takeaways are pretty incredible: - 💸 There was a 20% (!!!) increase in philanthropic funding towards climate change mitigation efforts between 2022-2023 alone. However, this still only represents 2% of total philanthropic giving in 2023. Much more needs to be deployed to meet the urgency of the climate crisis. - 🌍 Similarly, foundation funding to some of the most climate-vulnerable regions (including Africa, Asia & Oceania, and Latin America) increased substantially between 2019-2023. And yet, frustratingly, giving to these regions represented just 20% of total foundation funding towards a single country or region. - 🫨 Middle-to-low income countries received much lower levels of core funding to support their climate mitigation efforts than the U.S. and Europe (core funding, i.e. overhead, is the lifeblood of ANY organization, and essential to ensuring long term success and sustainability). I genuinely believe in the transformative power of philanthropy to address the biggest challenges of our time. When practiced in a way that is equitable, collaborative, inclusive, and FAST --- foundations can be a critical tool to amplify and accelerate the hard work being done at the grassroots level. Kudos to ClimateWorks Foundation for publishing such important data, and for supporting some incredible organizations (including Power for All) in the fight for bold climate action. #SDG7 #SustainableDevelopment #ClimateMitigation #ClimateAdaptation #GlobalPhilanthropy #Trending #EndEnergyPovertyFaster

Global philanthropic giving to climate change mitigation grew over the past year, but still accounts for less than 2% of total giving. Terraset exists to change that.
