Our Hexafarm has been overproducing beyond expectations ever since it’s installation some months ago. Our initial fish population of 5,000 have graduated to a larger feed size, and have a ‘Feed Conversion Ratio’ of 1.17, this means that 83% of the fish food we feed them is being converted into fish meet, many times more efficient than chickens or pigs! The ecosystem within this innovative structure has flourished, boasting a diverse range of inhabitants including crabs, milkfish, zebra fish, and various other species. The Hexafarm has recently started growing a human-edible seaweed called ‘Guso’ which we will soon be able to use as a fish feed as well. Our only remaining steps are to slowly introduce shrimp and lobster to the ecosystem to complete the cycle. While they list things like farm economics, passion of farmer in the trade, soil quality, soil health and other magic wand to arrive, eat and sell your bountiful harvest, I feel they left out the most important of all DON’T MAINTAIN AN ISOLATED FARM. If you must, make sure you are not too far from Telephone network, a very good gun and a very good hospital. Above all say your prayer to God daily for protection we don’t always see and have all angles covered. Need I remind you that while your farm may appear good looking due to your creativity and investment, you would always have the food chain and ecosystem imposing its narrative? It’s no news the brawl that ensues between Animal farmers and Wild beast. This threatens not only to devour their animal asset but to include the farmer on the menu. The use of PPE-Personal Protective Equipment must not be brushed aside by the wave of hands on any farm. We have seen and heard of uninvited guests often turning a romantic or prosperous meeting on farms and gardens to a solemn assembly in honor of the dearly departed souls. Snakes, Scorpions, deadly spiders, and other harmful insects could bring your life to an abrupt stop if you fail to take precautions. All it takes is a split second of distraction or hands accidentally invading the present hideout of the lurking “DEADLY NEIGHBOR” Don’t mean to give you the chills. India, South Africa, Australia, Brazil, USA, Tanzania etc often have scenes of horror movies, Unfortunately, the events are not pranks, holly, bolly, or nollyhood scripts rather sad events based on true life stories and account of victims with notable scars to keep the history ever fresh in their minds and often leading to PTSDs. 🌊 Enhancing Sustainability with Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) in the Baltic Sea Region! 🌊 🗝 Today we want to share key insights from a recent article on societal perceptions of aquaculture, combining a scoping review and media analysis. #TETRAS acknowledges that to achieve a successful expansion and implementation of recirculating aquaculture systems (#RAS) in the Baltic Sea Region, it is fundamental to increase and improve awareness of sustainable aquaculture and RAS. 🗣 As part of our project, Pilot 4 is currently setting up a small-scale RAS to improve aquaculture awareness. Hilary Karlson and Mette Jørgensen from Guldborgsund Kommune recently shared why decided to focus this Pilot on aquaculture awareness: “Currently, there are no land-based fish production facilities in our region, and establishing a successful business venture in this sector requires the entire value chain of an aquaculture facility to be engaged. The African Catfish remains relatively unknown in Denmark as a nutritious source of protein and essential fatty acids. Generating market demand for a product requires raising awareness, demystifying misconceptions, and gaining consumer acceptance. GBS aims to provide fact-based information about closed RAS fish and plant production to empower future stakeholders and consumers to make informed decisions, whether as consumers, producers, or investors.” 🧠 Here are some key insights from the article applied to RAS: 🔍 Transparency and Communication: Building trust through transparent operations and clear communication is essential. Highlighting the environmental and economic benefits of RAS can positively shape perceptions. 🤝 Engaging Stakeholders: Collaboration with local communities, environmental NGOs, and policymakers helps address concerns and showcase the advantages of RAS. Partnering with scientists ensures our strategies are evidence-based. 🌱 Focus on Sustainability: Promoting the sustainability aspects of RAS—such as reduced environmental impact and efficient resource use—reinforces the positive impact of our project. ⚖️  Addressing Negative Perceptions: Public awareness campaigns and transparent reporting are vital to counter negative perceptions.
