Stilt Houses in Setúbal, Portugal Setúbal, once the center of the sardine industry and a thriving hub for salt production, has gracefully transitioned into a serene region that still offers sustenance fishing to its inhabitants. Nestled in this historically rich area, MAST's new stilt houses are a testament to thoughtful and sustainable design. Set amidst an estuary with walking paths perfect for bird watchers and near the adventurous hills of Arrábida, this development captures the essence of Setúbal’s new identity while preserving its fishing village charm. Access to these stilt houses is thoughtfully planned via boats or winding walkways, ensuring minimal disruption to the natural landscape. We're particularly impressed with MAST's commitment to sustainability. By building offsite using locally sourced CLT, they ensure that the natural beauty remains undisturbed. This innovative approach not only protects the environment but also supports the local economy. This studio has managed to look into the future of rising sea levels without blinking. With the first units set for completion in 2025, these stilt houses are poised to become a coveted destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat in a natural setting. Whether you're a nature enthusiast or someone looking for tranquility, this seems like an idyllic escape. https://loom.ly/K6AYaJc #housing #architecture #urbanplanning

Why the Maldives Doesn’t Have Stilt Houses? I've been pondering the unique architecture of the Maldives, especially the absence of stilt houses. One of the main reasons is that bamboo, a key material for stilt construction, isn’t common here. Instead, the people of the Maldives have ingeniously adapted to their environment by utilizing local materials like coral stones to build their homes. This sustainable approach not only reflects the culture and lifestyle of the Maldives but also demonstrates a deep respect for the surrounding natural resources. It’s fascinating to see how necessity drives innovation in architecture, ensuring both functionality and harmony with nature. Below image is a local building constructed with a coral stone wall. What are your thoughts on this? #MaldivesArchitecture #SustainableLiving #CulturalHeritage

Stunning Facade Complete on $600M development.... and it looks awesome! The Seafarers façade is now complete, marking an exciting milestone in the $600 million mixed-use development at Melbourne’s North Wharf, opposite Melbourne's Exhibition Centre. Combining modern architecture with heritage restoration, this project breathes new life into the historic Goods Shed No.5 while introducing Australia’s first 1 Hotel & Homes. Located along Wurundjeri Way with great Yarra River views, the development stands out with its intricate façade of 4,856 panels. Designed by Fender Katsalidis and RIVERLEE, the lower levels reflect the angular design of the heritage-listed shed, while the upper sections echo the fluidity of the river itself. This project isn’t just about aesthetics. Over 2,000 salvaged items from Goods Shed No.5 have been incorporated, merging Melbourne’s rich architectural heritage with modern innovation. The new 3,500sqm Seafarers Rest Park will also add green space for residents and visitors to enjoy. An incredibly complex project, but shaping up nicely as a new icon on the Yarra River! If you want to hear more about the origins of this project, revisit our very first podcast episode of The Building Talks Podcast, when we spoke with Project Director Brett Howlett, and delved into the vision and early stages of the project. https://lnkd.in/gGpiSFUT With interior fit-outs now underway, Seafarers is set to deliver a unique blend of luxury, design, and cultural preservation. #BuildingTalks #MelbourneDevelopment #SeafarersMelbourne

Cutting down forests in Tengah, Lentor and Dover East to intensify greenery on buildings will still result in a net increase in ambient temperatures and a weakening of climate resilience. In view of the climate crisis and biodiversity loss, we need to protect Tengah forest from further destruction while focusing on redeveloping previously developed areas instead. Located south of Lisbon, Aldeia do Meco is a rural village that has seen a substantial change in the last forty years due to its proximity to the beaches, becoming a tourist location. Originally characterised by low, traditional buildings, this site underwent major construction in the early 1980s that radically altered its structure. Designed by Fábio Ferreira Neves, Casa no Meco is located close to the new architecture but at the same time wants to be separated by from it. A building with sharp features, a sloping roof covered with tiles in a reference to the original village roofs and rural culture. The dwelling is divided into two parts: one discreet, the other extroverted and in relation to the outdoors. #architecture #design #house #beach https://lnkd.in/dP-Kj8xy

+ Radisson Collection by SPECTRUM Architecture + In the heart of Georgia's historic Chavchavadze garden stands a marvel of modern architecture: the Radisson Tsinandali Hotel. What sets this structure apart is not just its luxurious accommodations, but its unique integration with nature itself. Imagine a building that doesn't impose on its surroundings but becomes an extension of them—a vision brought to life by a seamless green facade. This innovative approach isn't just about aesthetics; it's a testament to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Carefully selected plant species adorn every inch of the hotel's exterior, creating not just a beautiful sight but a thriving ecosystem. 🌴✨ Bali's unique rule for architecture: No building can be taller than a palm tree! ✨🌴 In Bali, there's a traditional belief that no structure should surpass the height of the island's sacred palm trees, keeping the skyline low and the island’s cultural and natural beauty intact. This regulation, known as the Tri Hita Karana principle, preserves harmony between humans, nature, and the divine. 🌿🏛️ So, if you're investing in property here, don't expect any towering skyscrapers, but enjoy the views of palm trees and the natural landscape instead! 🌺🌅 #BaliRealEstate #BaliLiving #TropicalParadise #InvestInBali #SustainableArchitecture #OwnPropertyAbroad
