🇪🇺The European Gas Transmission System Operators (TSOs) of Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany’s ONTRAS are starting the feasibility phase for the Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor (NBHC). These studies will focus on various crucial aspects including pipeline routing, compressor stations planning, financial and economic analysis, environmental and safety permitting issues as well as investigations on an implementation timeline. These studies are expected to run until mid-2026. In addition to these studies the involved TSOs aim to complete several cross-border analyses to further substantiate the NBHC planning on an overall project level based on the outcomes from the aforementioned studies. Uldis Bariss, Chairman of the Board of Conexus, emphasizes that the Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor project demonstrates not only Latvia's interest in regional integration and capacity to implement cross-border projects, but also its ability to increase the diversification of energy sources in practice.

Have a read of our brand new Summer Supply Outlook 2024 for natural gas! We looked into different shades of stress on the supply and demand side. For the first time we also considered Ukrainian storage options. Most cases demonstrate independence of Europe from Russian pipeline supply, especially in scenarios where demand side actions are undertaken. #ENTSOG #naturalgas #security #securityofsuppy #SoS #LNG #UGS
📢 ENTSOG publishes its Summer Supply Outlook 2024 (with Winter 2024/25 overview) and Summer Supply Review 2023. The Summer Supply Outlook assesses #injection levels and the possible evolution of #demand, #supply, and #exports from 1 April to 30 September 2024. The assessment shows that 👇 📍 #EU gas stock level is in the higher range of the past 5 years as of 1 April 2024 📍 New gas infrastructure projects have been commissioned in the past year, mainly #LNG terminals, boosting #energy #security in the EU 📍 Additional storage flexibility could be secured by storing additional volumes in Ukrainian storage facilities 📍 Most cases show the independence of the EU gas system from Russian pipeline supply, especially in scenarios where some demand side actions are undertaken Read our PR 👉 https://bit.ly/4cWuP2d Read the full report 👉 https://bit.ly/3Q1KYJO

🔋 A significant milestone in the energy transition was achieved on October 22, 2024, when the Federal Network Agency approved the construction of Germany’s nationwide hydrogen core network. This initiative will create Europe’s largest hydrogen network by 2032, becoming a cornerstone of the future climate-neutral energy system. 🌍 The approved network spans 9,040 km, primarily utilizing converted natural gas pipelines (approximately 60%). With an investment of €18.9 billion, the network will have feed-in and exit capacities of around 101 GW and 87 GW respectively. Additionally, infrastructure from ten DSO core network operators covering 468 km has been approved. 📈 This core grid aligns with the EnWG targets for a Germany-wide, expandable, efficient, and climate-friendly hydrogen network, aimed to be fully operational by 2032. The EnWG also allows for deferring certain measures until 2037, providing flexibility in project implementation. 🚀 This development positions Germany at the forefront of European infrastructure advancement. It marks the beginning and foundation for the hydrogen market's growth. The TSOs are making a proactive investment: the core network is a market offering, designed for market needs and to evolve with market demands. #EnergyTransition #HydrogenEconomy #SustainableFuture #GreenEnergy #InfrastructureDevelopment #ClimateAction
Germany - The Federal Network Agency has today approved the planning application for the 9,000 km Hydrogen Core Network and construction will begin in 2025. The 15 TSOs responsible for building and operating the Network will invest €18.9 billion by the planned completion date in 2032. With a capacity of c.100 GW the Network will be Europe's largest hydrogen pipeline system. 5,500 miles of hydrogen pipelines are currently in planning in Germany, with construction starting in 2025. In comparison, the U.S. currently has 1,400 miles. When we talk about how Europe and Asia are leading the hydrogen transition, we see an order of magnitude difference. Hydrogen pipelines are the cheapest way to transport over distances, leading to an additional cost reduction for the molecule. #hydrogen #energytransition

On June 26th, the Beijing Pipeline Company of the State Grid Corporation of China announced that the "One click Start, Intelligent Operation" project of the Tokto compressed gas station on the Shaanxi Beijing Fourth Line has been put into operation for half a year. All operating parameters and remote intelligent control technology have been fully verified, greatly promoting and enhancing the technological innovation, industrial control, and safety support of long-distance pipelines. This marks that China's intelligent control technology for high-power compressor units has comprehensively broken through foreign technological blockades, achieving a leap from catching up to leading the way, reaching a world leading level, and adding a new chapter to the improvement of core competitiveness and enhancement of core functions for China's natural gas industry.

Gas distribution networks are facing declining volumes in Hungary in the mid-term, similarly to many European countries. A further challenge is that the decline is regionally differentiated, driven by a heterogeneous customer mix by the network area. As infrastructure investments are long-term, preparations should start today for how we can handle the financial and technical challenges due to these factors. A strong central planning approach, cross-sector coordination, policy- and tariffing changes, adapted asset management, and careful financial management are all essential to navigate the energy transition without suboptimal economic costs at customers, investors, or society as a whole. This is what I talked about at the 54. International Gas Conference in Hungary. Thank you for the invitation and the great conference!
