It’s Canadian Agricultural Safety Week, and this year you’re encouraged to plan for farm safety every day. Farm safety is about more than being aware of hazards. It’s also about engaging in conversations about the importance of farm safety. And it’s about contributing to long-term changes that benefit everyone who lives and works on or visits Canadian farms. Farm safety is important year-round. By planning for farm safety every day, we can work together toward ensuring no one gets hurt on our farms. This Canadian Agricultural Safety Week, we celebrate Your Farm, Your Family, Your Success. How can you engage in a conversation about farm safety this week? #FarmSafetyEveryday

Recent research led by Associate Professor, Kristina Horback from the University of California, Davis, and Maggie Creamer highlight the importance of understanding how cattle behavior can be used to promote sustainable land use practices. 🐂 Their study was conducted over two summers at UCANR's Sierra Foothill Research and Extension Center which focused on tracking grazing patterns and personality types of 50 Angus and Hereford cattle. By understanding #cattle behavior, #farmers and #ranchers can strategically distribute their herds on rangelands that align with each individual cattle's personality trait. For example, some cattle may be more willing to climb hills to access areas with more vegetation for grazing, while others may be less inclined to do so. This approach not only maximizes grazing efficiency but reduces the need for human intervention and resources used to manage grazing activities. By evenly distributing cattle across the landscape based on behavior, farmers and ranchers can ensure that all areas of land are grazed, leading to healthier and fertile soils.
