2024 WORLD FOOD SAFETY DAY As part of our activities to mark the #2024WFSD, The Street Food Safety Initiative of The Nigerian Institute of Food Science & Technology would be embarking on a Food Safety Advocacy at the popular wet market - Ile - Epo/Oke Odo Market in Alimosho LGA on June 6. Our Food Safety Champions would be joined by other stakeholders from the Public Health Nurses, Environmental & Occupational Health department of the Ministry of Health; to educate food vendors and consumers on the need to embrace good hygiene practices and food safety culture to safeguard public health. In 2023, NIFST Food Safety Roadshow with a live band at the densely populated Oshodi market in Lagos put Nigeria in the FAO record of global activities for #2023WFSD Celebration. This year, celebrating the WFSD in a well - patronized wet market in the heart of Lagos is to reach more food vendors, who are majorly wholesalers, with food safety education so as to minimize unsafe and unhygienic practices associated with their operations. The theme of #2024WFSD - Food Safety: Prepare for the Unexpected - resonates at a time like this with increased report of sharp practices by food vendors to earn a living at all cost so as to stay out of the prevalent hunger in the land. Food Safety advocacy therefore must continue to safeguard public health. Food Safety is Everybody's Business! #2024WFSD #foodsafetyadvocacy. #food. #NIFST #NIFSTLagos

Hello Fam, today is the 6th edition of World Food Safety Day which is being commemorated under the theme "Prepare for the Unexpected" This draws our attention to food safety incidents, that cause 1 out of 10 people worldwide fall ill from contaminated food each year. We have so many unhealthy food products in the market which causes food poisoning and the development of #NCDs. Access to sufficient amounts of safe food is key to sustaining life and promoting good health. Food safety has a critical role in assuring that food stays safe at every stage of the food chain, from production to harvest, processing, storage, distribution, all the way to preparation and consumption. The main agenda of this day is to ensure that, the food we eat is safe, mainstream food safety in the public agenda. Let's keep food safe and improve our health. #foodsafety #ActonNCDs World Health Organization World Food Programme CAMEROUN MINSANTE/SDLMCNT All followers

Front-of-pack warning labels (FOPWL) are a vital tool in the fight for food safety. In the face of unexpected food safety challenges, front-of-pack warning labels are a proactive measure that can save lives. They provide consumers with the information they need to avoid products that may contribute to health issues. This #WorldFoodSafetyDay, we urge Ministry of Health, Kenya to prioritize evidence-based mandatory front-of-pack warning labels to ensure every Kenyan is prepared for the unexpected by making healthier food choices easier. #FoodPolicyKE #FoodPolicy #FOPWL #FoodSafety

The world celebrates World Food Safety Day today. We’re joining forces with the FAO and World Health Organization to campaign for the safety of the world’s food. Here are some recommendations from the WHO: Practice safe food handling at home and follow WHO's Five Keys to Safer Food: keep clean, separate raw and cooked, cook thoroughly, keep food at safe temperatures and use safe water and raw materials. Know how to keep food safe before, during, and after emergencies, such as floods, fires, natural disasters or the loss of power. Know how to report poor hygiene standards and misleading food labelling. If you’re in Ghana, the Food and Drugs Authority,Ghana or Ghana Standards Authority could help. #WorldFoodSafetyDay

🍽️ September is US National Food Safety Education Month. According to the World Health Organization, unsafe food is responsible for an estimated 600 million cases of foodborne illnesses and 420,000 deaths worldwide each year. The worst part about these statistics is that foodborne illness is 100% preventable. ASI, a member of the Kiwa group, works to prevent this from happening every day as a food safety Certification Body, but there are several ways that anyone can get involved and raise awareness, no matter where they fall along the food supply chain: ✅ Expand your food safety knowledge through webinars and training sessions ✅ Donate to support future food safety professionals ✅ Raise awareness by participating in campaigns like STOP3000 Discover more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/er9hJtuG #FoodSafety #FoodSafetyMonth #Kiwa #FoodFeedFarm #ASI
