Important to define what sovereign means…. Does ‘ownership’ detract from ensuring jobs, skills, production occur in Australia… does the source of investment matter? I’m interested in what the policy settings should be… I must admit I think that if ownership changed to Hanwha then we could no longer claim an Australian shipbuilding presence in the US…. A classic incident; although safe line handling may be considered common knowledge, these kind of incidents still happen too often. It cannot be emphasized enough to give newcomers in the industry sufficient training and instruction on safe line handling.

Very interesting clause from a leading P&I club. Although the vessel has an approved STS Plan, there is a clause which exempts the club from any cover from liabilities in case the STS ops is proved not to be in accordance with OCIMF STS Guide. QUOTE STS OCIMF Clause: There is no cover for liabilities, costs and expenses hereunder unless any STS operation is undertaken in accordance with the latest edition, and any amendments thereof, of the OCIMF/CDI/ICS/SIGTTO Ship to Ship Transfer Guide. UNQUOTE DYNAMARINe registered shipowners are satisfying this requirement by default, since DYNAMARINe undertakes to assess not only vessel compliance but STS operation compliance, 24x7. Many fascinating lessons learned at #gsgnola24 today. Navigating the Minefield, facilitated by Eric Tucker, CST was an amazing collaborative experience, with people from all over the world shining light on the issues and anti-patterns they see in their daily work, and what they can do about them. The main issue I have seen brought up by people I spoke to, over and over, was the lack of a coherent, value adding, frequently re-evaluated goal that the entire organization can work towards. It seems most problems modern teams face largely stem from this issue, including overly-long meetings, useless communication, low quality, and scaling problems.
