How does it feel to prepare for a TEDx Talk? Well. A lot of preparation and dryruns. I have held a lot of speeches and presentations over the last 20 years, but nothing feels as challenging as a TEDx Talk. 15 to 18 minutes up on stage to deliver the perfect Talk. So many great people in this world have done an awesome job before. Call this a legacy to live up to. But... you only grow with challenges. My friend, Zoe-Ann Bartlett, never ceases to amaze me! When I met her back in 2014, she quickly became one of my favorite people. In need of someone to help with social media for her culinary studio, which hosted experiential dinners, oyster and bubbly Fridays, culinary classes, and cookbook author events, I couldn't have said yes faster. I joined the Intentional Table team and had so much fun learning from Zoe-Ann, being immersed in the glow of her creativity and energy, and having a part in her movement to build community around the table. Then, I found out that she published a book called If I Had a Daughter: Pearls of Wisdom for Young Women! I immediately grabbed the book and read it all in one sitting-it was that good! I reminisced about the talks we had in her studio, on ferry rides to Seattle, and in her office. This book made me laugh, made me cry, and then I had to buy a few more to share with others. Now, she is on to being a TEDx speaker! In the TedTalk below, she discusses how important it is to gather around a table, how it builds community, creates memories, and can cause positive change. She tells the stories of five ordinary people who had extraordinary impact by setting a table. Zoe-Ann, you are one special woman!
