Case Study of the Week Preparing for a challenging transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement in a 44-year-old woman, surgeons requested a #3Dprinted model to enhance visibility into the patient’s heart and facilitate improved communication within the surgical team. Integrating the model into pre-surgical planning enabled the team to streamline the surgery, resulting in over 120 minutes saved and a quicker patient recovery. Key Findings: 🏃♂️- IMT showed significant improvements in exercise capacity (measured by peak VO₂ and the six-minute walk test); 🫁 - Enhanced lung function and maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) were noted, helping to mitigate respiratory muscle weakness; 👨🏻⚕️- Overall quality of life and reduction in PPCs were also positively impacted! ⚠️ IMT shows great potential as a valuable, non-conventional approach to supporting patients before and after cardiac surgery! 👉🏻 Full-text: https://lnkd.in/diqVQaxd

A recent study following 1000 patients undergoing cardiac surgery shows promising results! RPM patients experienced: - 33% relative reduction in 30-day readmission - Shorter postoperative length of stay (about 1 day less than the control) - Higher rate of discharge to the home (5.6% more than the control) A key takeaway from the study was "Remote patient monitoring (RPM) is feasible, scalable, and generalizable."
