🌟 Reflecting on my journey as a commercial leader in the healthcare sector, I’m reminded of the diverse experiences that have shaped my perspective. From managing prescription portfolios under world-renowned FMCG brands to driving national health campaigns at a senior government level, my path has been anything but conventional. I’ve had the privilege to work across multiple facets of healthcare— crafting strategies in a healthcare marketing agency, and spearheading hyperscale in the health tech space with Proximie. Through these varied roles, I’ve noticed some universal truths about commercial leadership in healthcare: ❤️ Purpose-Driven Mission: Whether you're marketing a prescription drug or a health tech solution, the focus is always on improving lives. Every decision is underscored by the impact it has on patients and communities. 🙃 Complex Stakeholder Ecosystem: Healthcare is a sector where collaboration is key. Understanding the needs and motivations of stakeholders—from patients and healthcare professionals to regulators and policymakers—is crucial. ❎ Regulatory Rigor: Navigating the complexities of healthcare regulations is a constant across all roles. Ensuring compliance while innovating requires a delicate balance of creativity and diligence. 📊 Data-Driven Decisions: Across all sectors of healthcare, data is the backbone of decision-making. Leveraging insights to drive strategy, optimize outcomes, and measure impact is a shared thread in every role I’ve held. 🔵 Adaptability: The healthcare landscape is always evolving, whether due to technological advancements, policy shifts, or emerging health trends. The ability to pivot and stay agile is essential in any leadership role. As I continue to lead in the health tech space with Proximie, I’m excited to draw on these experiences and insights to drive meaningful impact. The challenges are complex, but so is the opportunity to innovate and make a difference. Ever wondered why selling to healthcare is so different? Had an interesting conversation recently with a healthcare industry veteran that made me think. He pointed out a fascinating paradox in healthcare technology adoption: ▪️ The industry has deep pockets ▪️ Innovation is desperately needed ▪️ Yet nobody wants to be first His explanation was eye-opening: In healthcare, being an early adopter isn't just risky - it can be career-ending. Even minor errors can have major consequences. The insight that stuck with me: You're not just selling a solution. You're asking someone to stake their professional reputation on your promise. He mentioned that successful innovations often start with one respected voice willing to validate what everyone else fears to try first. Makes you wonder: How do you drive innovation in an industry where being first carries such risk? What's your experience with healthcare innovation adoption? #Healthcare #Innovation #HealthTech #Leadership

Almost half of healthcare organizations only dedicate 0-10 hours to strategic planning activities per month. When daily operations take up a disproportionate amount of time to deal with, how can you expect to undergo a business transformation? Growth can only occur when you can plan accordingly. The root of this problem has to be solved, which in this case is refining the operational processes that your organization relies on. Do you have sufficient staffing levels? Have you enabled them with labor-reducing technology? Are they sufficiently trained and cared for? With efficiency, comes the capacity for increased executive function and future planning. #Healthcare #BusinessTransformation

The most important question often comes last: “How do you get administration to buy into this?” This question came at minute 31 of our 30 minute call. We had talked about all of the new capabilities and technology. It made sense for the clinical team. Budgets are tight. Status quo is not immediately expensive. Adding innovation in healthcare comes down to vision, influence, and selling internally. For those of you selling into healthcare… the last question is usually the most important. Be ready for it. Have someone on your team who has been through the whole process with the group you want to sell to.

In today’s healthcare market, everyone is seeking to expand, enter new markets, attract new customer segments, and get a bigger market share, All of which are strategic goals that most healthcare leaders would rally behind. However, despite being a strategic decision, expansion can be a very tricky endeavour, and can do more harm than good if not done properly. In my opinion, there are two extremely important factors that needs to be considered before approving an expansion plan: 1. Efficiency before expansion: In most cases, healthcare organizations can become leaner, more profitable, and more agile by trying to make the most out of already existing resources. Focusing on efficiency will ensure transferring some of the best practices to the new facilities, instead if copying a heavily burdened model. While also improving the profitability of existing facilities, and thusly, providing more resources that will support new ventures and allow more expansion. 2. Expansion should never negatively affect the financial situation on the medium to long-term. Some expansion plans might not have a direct positive financial impact on the organization, which can be accepted if the expansion has other strategic goals; bigger market share, enter a new market, etc. it’s also acceptable to have a short-term negative impact on the financial performance of an organization due to the high upfront cost. However, having a negative medium-term or long-term effect on the organization would make the organization less sustainable and more prone to risks and fluctuations. Ultimately, expansion should never occur for the sole purpose of expansion. #Healthcare #expansion #strategy
