Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the U.S. and symbolizes the ongoing pursuit of civil rights as well as the battle against systemic inequalities—a struggle that resonates deeply with our mission. At Crossroads, we recognize how substance use disorders (SUDs) disproportionately affect marginalized communities, which are often intensified by economic disparities and limited healthcare access. That's why our commitment to diversity and inclusion stands firm. We are dedicated to providing compassionate, thorough care to those often overlooked. This Juneteenth, we recommit to creating an environment where every recovery journey is supported, recognizing the unique challenges faced. #juneteenth #healthequity

#DecolonisingWellbeing 🫂No community care without accountability and repair! 💔The missing ingredient in too many ‘#Decolonization” and “#Liberation” #Movements throughout #History has been a failure to maintain #Solidarity and #Unity, leading to fragmentation and setbacks. This is often as a result of a lack of #Accountability and #Repair practices to serve as checks and balances for power. ✊Oppression exists because of harm that nobody ever took accountability for, or offered reparations for. “Community,” “liberation,” and “decolonisation” are just buzzwords unless we actually put accountability and repair into practice. A ‘movement’ with no accountability or repair practices in place is nothing more than a hypocritical repackaging of existing oppressive systems. There can be no real community care without accountability and repair. Our movements won’t succeed without them. 📣As an advocate for social justice 👊🏾and equity, it is imperative that white people 🧔♂️👩🦳recognize the significance of addressing their own traumas and biases before engaging in antiracist spaces. The journey towards becoming effective allies in the fight against systemic racism begins with introspection and healing. 👩🏽🏫Therapy provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals to unpack their experiences, confront their privilege, and challenge deeply ingrained beliefs that perpetuate inequality. By seeking therapy, they can confront their own biases, unlearn harmful patterns of thinking, and develop the emotional resilience necessary to engage in difficult conversations about race and racism. ⛔️Entering antiracist spaces without addressing your own trauma can inadvertently cause harm to marginalized communities. ⚠️Unresolved trauma can manifest in defensiveness, avoidance of discomfort, and resistance to change, all of which can undermine our efforts to dismantle oppressive systems. graphic credit: néhiyaw treaty 4 Indigenous 2spirit @decolonize yourself #Antiracism #Allyship #Therapy #SocialJustice #Healing #Equity

Today we hold space for the joy and sorrow that Juneteenth ushers in. We are joyful in our celebration of freedom and we are sorrowful in remembering our nation’s long history of oppression, violence, and discrimination. Youth health professionals: you are uniquely equipped to help youth navigate the complexities of Juneteenth and engage with them in challenging topics about racism and discrimination. Research shows the long-term effects of discrimination are serious. Youth who experience discrimination face higher rates of other risk factors and increased risk behaviors compared to the general population. Being an ally to minority youth means understanding the social determinants of health that are impacting them and advocating for the interventions that will support them.

🧡 Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to honour the children who never returned home and the Survivors of residential schools, along with their families and communities. This day is a crucial part of the reconciliation process, acknowledging the tragic history and ongoing impacts of these schools. Let's wear orange to show our support and raise awareness of the inter-generational impacts of residential schools, emphasizing the message that "Every Child Matters." Join in local activities across the country to commemorate this day, and take a moment to learn about the rich cultures, voices, and histories of the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. Together, we can advance reconciliation and renew relationships with Indigenous peoples based on respect and partnership. If you or someone you know needs support, mental health resources are available for Indigenous peoples. #NDTR #EveryChildMatters #TruthAndReconciliation

Reflecting on Truth and Reconciliation Day: A Call to Healing and Unity On September 30, 2024, as we observe Truth and Reconciliation Day, we are called to pause and engage with the history and ongoing impact of colonialism on Indigenous communities. This day is more than a moment of remembrance; it is a commitment to healing and understanding. For many, this day underscores the profound injustices faced by Indigenous peoples, including residential schools, forced assimilation, and systemic discrimination. The legacy of these actions continues to impact communities today, resulting in trauma and social inequities. Understanding this context is vital for fostering meaningful reconciliation. The Importance of Truth-Telling Truth-telling is essential for reconciliation. It means acknowledging past injustices and their lasting effects. 👊🏾 I Am Good Trouble I AM 👊🏾 Four years ago, the Good Trouble Project sparked a journey of resilience, creativity, and empowerment within me and my community. It delved into the UK's activism hotspots, unearthing stories of resistance and hope. Through the Love, Hate, Create model, we empowered individuals to transform struggles into creative expressions driving societal change. As an intersectional environmentalist, advocate, researcher, founder, CEO, educator, and innovator, I've witnessed how art and activism can heal and inspire. My journey, layered with challenges like ADHD, autism, PTSD, autoimmune diseases, motherhood, and divorce, fuels my advocacy for equity and racial trauma-informed practices. Proud of our legacy, I believe that every step we take towards justice shapes a brighter, more equitable future. Let's continue making good trouble and being the change we seek. 🙏🏾 My Prayer for the Future: May the Most High guide me on a path of self-discovery and growth, shaping my reality through faith, creativity, and forgiveness. Let's transform life's discords into harmonies, embracing an abundant life and being masters of our fate. Reproductive Justice analyzes power systems, looks at white supremacy and systemic racism, addresses intersecting oppressions, and centers the most marginalized. As Audre Lorde said, “There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives." But that also means that the people doing this work have these intersecting lives while they deal with trauma, emotional toll, exhaustion, and much more because they show up every day to support others. In order to ensure workers are being taken care of, disrupting the status quo by building caring work spaces is of utmost importance. Join us, alongside our partners Texas Equal Access Fund and Avow, on April 30th from 12- 1 pm at this virtual panel for Texas Woman's University School of Social Work in how to create caring work spaces. Black, Brown, and immigrant youth, together with their communities, experience persistent trauma due to historical and ongoing racism, colonization and genocide, and xenophobia. These harmful experiences undermine young people’s physical and mental wellbeing, and have long-lasting impacts on their futures. However, as communities of color and researchers have demonstrated, when young people’s cultural and racial identities are affirmed, these harms can be mitigated or even prevented. Affirming activities such as cultural events, language revitalization, preparing and sharing traditional foods, and traditional healing practices play a critical role in strengthening and healing communities who have experienced cultural trauma. It is past time that policymakers recognize the value of and actively support culturally grounded services that respect youth’s holistic identities.
