If you’re thinking of sitting out this election, please don’t. It is better to submit a blank ballot than to just stay home. Do not let apathy or antipathy serve as an excuse for inaction. Go online. Research what will appear on your ballot this year. In all likelihood, there is something on your ballot that you have an opinion on. Even if there isn’t, go vote. If you truly feel that you don’t want to vote on anything, then VOTE that way. If you have the time and resources to vote, the absolute worst thing you can do this year is stay home. Whatever you do this election, vote.

Disclosure: I’m not endorsing anyone. You know that whole thing about if you vote third party you’re wasting your vote. Bullshit. YOUR VOTE IS YOUR VOICE! So these folks saying don’t throw away your vote it’s basically saying sit down, shut up, you don’t know what you want. You want more options? Demonstrate that with your ballot. If every election people choose a “side” of the two, it will appear we’re satisfied . Every election independent parties get more votes…. Could create some momentum for smart governing.

There is nothing more important than letting your voice be heard. Every single vote cast matters. Politicians pay attention to where votes come from, even if those votes went to the opposition. Voting turnout matters. We are all served best if we all cast our votes. We will never be able to check all the boxes for every politician. There will be some whose positions on issues we care about will align with our concerns and yet they will be on the opposite side of the table with other issues. we will never find anyone in total alignment with our vision for the world. we need to accept compromise. we need to elect those who most closely match our own worldview. If you are not registered to vote, please, register to vote today. If you are registered to vote, please encourage your friends, colleagues and family members to register. Don't wait until it's close to election season. Get on those voting rolls now. Wake up the politicians.

Two days ago I had the joyful experience of watching one of my favorite colleagues own the room he was in. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Dr. Kareem Muhammad was in his element: confident, funny, potty-mouthed, and nattily dressed. His new book is a smart, and smart-assed, CTA for voters this election season. What’s the purpose of voting? It’s not to *choose* a candidate. It’s not to vote *against* a candidate. Voting is the ultimate act of purpose, Kareem tells us. Understand your self-interest and vote for it. Vote for yourself. Election season is a terrific time to act with purpose.
