Gender equality is a fundamental value of the European Union and is one of the UN’s sustainable development goals and therefore a cross-cutting theme in their programming. On 3 December the Wageningen University and Research (WUR) "Gender+ Equality Plan 2024-2028" was officially launched by rector Prof. dr. Carolien Kroeze. The WUR Gender+ Equality Plan is “a next step to collectively address biases and inequalities in all fields required by the EU: education and research, governance and leadership, recruitment and career support, social safety and work-life balance”. During this launch event, the WUR Gender+ Equality Award was handed out to GEO’s Chizu Sato who coordinates the Gender+ minor and CoP, Marrit van den Berg (DEC-SSG) and Joshua Wambugu (DARE). Congratulations to Chizu, Marrit and Joshua! More information here: https://lnkd.in/esq-2Fjg

Today (10.12) is happening the #GenderEqualityForum from #EIGE in Brussels. Data show that we will take 60 years to achieve gender equality. This year the Index focus is on gender-based violence and its intersections. Lots of relevant date are showed, however, what can be done to make real and long-last changes? It is urgent that a multi-sectorial approach take place in a collective shared responsibility. Focusing my last four yeard in following design contributions on #genderbasedviolence issue I can say that we are loosing time and capacity to leverage completly these issues. Attention, I'm not saying design will solve this complex and structural problem. Rather, #design can help to tackle it with its #participatory and #systemic approach, with its inner capacity to interwining domains, people and interests, adding critical bases to face complexity. Follow the event and read the index.

Pleased to let you know that an open access article co-authored with Salla Myyry has been published! The paper examines equality promotion through gender equality planning (GEP), which became obligatory in Finnish comprehensive schools in 2015. In the paper we argue that GEP has potential in gender equality promotion if the planning processes recognize contextual construction of gendered power relations and if equality promotion is not reduced to technical measures. Otherwise, the tool might actually impede equality rather than promoting it. The paper is available through this link: https://lnkd.in/dSCzpUc6

📢 The #ESAs third high level conference on #gender equality took place on Friday. This year we took a deep dive into the importance of data, not only in a European context, but also through a global lens. As underlined by our #Executive Director, #Francois-Louis Michaud, gender parity is not only imperative from a societal perspective, but also for the health and resilience of our economy. Our first panel, with Carmine Di Noia, Elizabeth McCaul and Hedwige Nuyens focused on how EU policies can drive economic growth through gender data transparency, whilst panel 2 took a global view. Andrea M Maechler, Sweta C. Saxena and Sam Woods compared policies from an international perspective and highlighted the importance of reliable data to ensure that policies encourage gender parity - as aptly put by Sweta Saxena, 'what you can't measure, you can't change'. Moderated by Nicholas Comfort of Bloomberg, discussions in both panels revolved around the need to ensure structures are in place to allow women to progress above middle management, difficulties encountered in attracting applications from female candidates for roles at all levels and the higher tendency of female candidates to not apply to roles they do not meet 100% of the specifications for. We would like to extend a warm thank you to all our panelists and speakers, our moderator, our opening keynote speaker, Nadia Calviño as well as Natasha Cazenave and Petra Hielkema (she / her) for their concluding dialogue. 👉🏽 To get up to speed, watch the conference here: https://lnkd.in/eS23f7Xu 💫 The EBA is proud to have a gender-equal leadership. 🗓️ This week, the European Parliament is holding its European Gender Equality Week, giving all committees and delegations an opportunity to explore issues relevant to gender equality in their particular areas of competence. Gender equality is a core value of the EU. The Union has committed to 'gender mainstreaming', meaning that, in principle, all EU policies must take both women's and men's perspectives into consideration. I’m excited to share my latest blog post on the EPRS Think Tank, where I have compiled recent research articles on gender equality, as part of my role in the Publication Management and Editorial Unit. This experience has been both enlightening and rewarding, as I have learned about significant work being done by the EU. Through this process, I've learned new ways to improve my writing and editing skills while summarizing key findings. I invite you to read it and consider what you can do to work towards Gender Equality this week. #GenderEquality

📝 My latest updates from #CSW68... In brief there is no democracy without women and the momentum for progress towards #genderequality must go beyond CSW. ⬇ Read my full blog post: https://lnkd.in/e7T9jMqm
"There is no democracy without women" 📌 In the latest from #CSW68 Director Carlien Scheele comes with reflections from participating at a side event organised by the Ministry of Equality, Spain on Parity, Democracy and Social Justice: Challenges and Progress 📌 In other news, evidence-based storytelling is strongly endorsed and encouraged by participants - emphasising that people in all their #diversity need to see themselves represented in data. 📌 And that the level of willingness to #cooperate must be maintained beyond CSW. #GenderEquality should always remain a topic at the table. And for that we need well established and resourced gender equality instituions. 📰 Read the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/geb2hYAY

The evidence is clear - gender equality is foundational to a secure and sustainable, peaceful and prosperous future. But is it being prioritised? Are we on track to achieve gender equality by 2030? According to a new piece by Australia’s Ambassador for Gender Equality Stephanie Copus Campbell and Alison Holder from Equal Measures 2030, the answer is no—and the clock is ticking! ⏰ Despite global commitments, no country is set to meet this goal, and at current rates, gender equality won't be achieved until the next century! This is troubling, as gender equality is crucial for tackling major global challenges like climate change, poverty, and conflict. But there’s hope! From grassroots movements to global forums, progress is happening. We need collective action now more than ever. 🙌✨ Dive into the blog to learn why gender equality is key to a peaceful, sustainable, and prosperous future for all, and what steps we can take today. https://lnkd.in/edGY_xVv
