I am excited to share a pioneering trial that will transform rail travel across Europe! 🚄 🇪🇺 Today, at Innotrans 2024 in Berlin I was delighted to sign a LOI with PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A., NetWorks, Alstom, Institute of Rail to implement the Future Railway Mobile Communications System (FRMCS) on a test track connected to the Polish rail network, one of the continent’s largest railway systems 🚆 5G technology will significantly improve communication within the rail network, facilitating video analytics, safety features and automation. As thousands of passengers and tonnes of freight travel across Europe every day 📦 train travel and transportation are crucial to the European economy, and modernising rail infrastructure can unlock substantial benefits in safety and economic efficiency 📈 Over the next two years, our dedicated R&D teams will provide on-site guidance to ensure the success of this initiative. This project not only aims to enhance Europe’s rail infrastructure but also supports the future standardization of railway communications throughout the region 📡 5G is the future of rail connectivity and Ericsson together with our pioneering partners plan to accelerate FRMCS in Poland and all of Europe. #Ericsson #5GRail #RailwayCommunictions #DigitalTransformation #Europe Piotr Kubicki EMBA Tomasz Majewski Maciej Zengel Patryk Borkowski Artur Fryczkowski Beata Rusinowicz Marek Pawlik Marcin Sugak Nora Wahby Rebecca Little Johan von Heijne Nicolas SEGOND Stefan Koetz Katarzyna Pąk Aneta Kranz David Rothbaum Krzysztof Waszkiewicz Somaya El Marrakchi Monica Isaksson Shanqing Ullerstig

🚢 RIJEKA GATEWAY GOES DIGITAL WITH 5G – A SUCCESS STORY ON BOTH LAND AND SEA Rijeka Gateway d.o.o is a port operating company founded by A.P. Moller - Maersk and ENNA Group. To set itself up for future success, the company wanted to use the latest technology to improve operations and boost efficiency. As such, Rijeka Gateway turned to our colleagues from Hrvatski Telekom to provide a cutting-edge Private 5G Campus Network for the new container port in Rijeka. This is a significant step that will help develop 5G technology in the maritime industry. The project highlights the confidence that Rijeka Gateway has in our ability to provide a high-availability service for seamless 24/7 port operations. It also validates our strategy for delivering business-critical communication over our public mobile network. APM Terminals, which is part of Maersk Group and oversees wireless connectivity in over 70 ports worldwide, will now test this new operational model—Managed Service by Hrvatski Telekom—in Rijeka. They will also migrate from the current 5G NSA architecture to the advanced 5G SA architecture, becoming our first public network private slice user. #Private5G #deployment at #Mainports #seaport #airport I had the privilege of participating in a roundtable workshop focused on private 5G (P5G) and its transformative potential specifically mainports: Seaport and Airport. The session brought together main players of the 5G ecosystem to discuss the opportunities and challenges inherent in deploying and leveraging private 5G networks. The consensus from the discussions highlight the importance of cooperation and shared knowledge. Successful deployment of P5G networks relies heavily on collaboration between stakeholders—operators, end users, technology providers, and regulators. This collaborative approach enables the generation of optimal solutions that not only address technological needs but also navigate the regulatory hurdles that currently restrain market growth. I got to learned that Netherlands 🇳🇱 are even behind on P5G deployment. One of the key takeaways was the need for digestible deliverables—practical guides, case studies, and accessible resources—to help less-involved end users understand and embrace private 5G applications. These resources will be crucial in demonstrating the value of P5G for enhancing operational efficiency, security, and innovation, particularly in industries like logistics, aviation, and shipping, which are central to mainports. Additionally, addressing regulatory challenges emerged as a pivotal topic. Harmonized policies and clear guidelines will be instrumental in unlocking the full potential of P5G, ensuring scalability and seamless integration into existing infrastructures. This workshop reinforced the critical role of shared insights and collective effort in propelling P5G adoption. By joining forces, we can harness the transformative power of private 5G to drive digitalization and innovation across mainports, creating smarter, more connected hubs that redefine global trade and logistics. It was a valuable opportunity to contribute to and learn from this dialogue, and I look forward to actively participating in shaping the future of P5G deployment.
