We are underway with the official launch of our study, ‘Prospects for Innovative Power Grid Technologies’. The study, carried out with Compass Lexecon and presented today by Dr Anton Burger and Fabien Roques , examines how innovative grid technologies can help Europe achieve its decarbonisation goals. 🚨 CurrENT's latest study with Compass Lexecon, 'Prospects for Innovative Power Grid Technologies', featured this week in Smart Energy International's Tech Talk. The article, written by Jonathan Spencer Jones, provides an overview of the study and the key takeaways. 💶 One of the takeaways from the study shows that regulatory barriers are delaying the wide scale deployment of innovative grid technologies. For example, there is a lack of incentives to opt for non-CAPEX intensive solutions and insufficient output incentives and incentives for innovation. I’m pleased to share my recent publication titled "Adaptive Hybrid Energy System for Remote Canadian Communities: Optimizing Wind-Diesel Systems Integrated with Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage (A-CAES)" This research focuses on addressing the challenges faced by remote communities in Canada by integrating CAES with wind-diesel power systems to reduce diesel fuel consumption and enhance energy independence. Using Kangirsuk, an Inuit village, as a case study, we developed an optimization-based sizing strategy for A-CAES systems that shows up to 63.4% reduction in diesel consumption, with even higher potential when oversizing the system. Thank you to my co-authors Stephan Séjourné, Andrew Wigston, Roydon Fraser, and Maurice Dusseault for their collaboration on this paper! Their insights were invaluable in shaping our research.
