Retailer competition to win back shoppers is, not surprisingly, heating 🥵 up with 🦃 day being the next (and perhaps most critical) "must win" grocery battle. Or is it? 🤔 Note...a 15-item Thanksgiving meal costs an average of $65.51 this year, which is down a meager 3% from last year🥱 Which, after all those savings is, wait for it...still 42% higher overall than in 2019 😳 Net, despite the hype surrounding promo discounts, the reality is the bar for pricing has been reset with little change insight. This elevates the need for retailers and RGM teams to break the frame of standard promotional activity with creative solutions to deliver consumer value. #grocerywars #RGM #pricing #inflation

US grocers are rolling out their most competitive Thanksgiving deals yet in 2024. Surveys suggest that 98% of consumers expect inflation to impact their Thanksgiving plans, compared to 79% in 2023. As retailers look to appeal to inflation-weary consumers, and by understanding the value in offering a bargain, several grocers are serving up Thanksgiving meals for $5 or less per person. The price per pound for turkey has been the centerpiece of these deals, with US retailers offering the following deals: 🦃 Save A Lot at $0.99 / pound 🦃 Target at $0.79 / pound (20% less than last year) 🦃 Lidl US at $0.39 / pound (10 cents less than last year) As competition drives record-low holiday pricing across the grocery sector, retailers are prioritizing overall store traffic that aims to get shoppers through the door in the hopes they purchase other holiday items at regular margins. What value propositions are you offering to stand out this holiday season? #PricingStrategy #RetailTech #PricingOptimization #HolidayPricing #Thanksgiving2024 Grocery Dive Fortune

This was my face when I saw the total cost of my last trip to the grocery store. We are all feeling the pinch of food prices today. For example, Foods that cost more today than in 2020: Hard-boiled eggs to start your work day. (+54%) Ground beef burgers for Saturday's cookout. (+20%) Apple slices packed in your kiddo's lunchbox. (+21%) Cereal & milk for breakfast on a busy morning. (+28% and +36%) Shoppers are responding to the price bump by decreasing single-retailer loyalty and leaning into grocers who offer the best deals, coupons, loyalty perks, and convenience. In fact, Advantage Solutions surveyed over 8,000 shoppers and found that over half utilize shopper loyalty coupons, in-store/digital circulars, and digital/printed coupons —shoppers are exploring digital options for price savings and meal planning— Grocers are in a prime position to alleviate some of the pain and increase full-shops by meeting shoppers where they are at: -Doubling down on personalized / loyalty-based coupons. -Leaning into digital recipes on and off their websites/properties. -Continuing to collaborate with suppliers and advertisers to improve price perception. -Creating an in-store and digital experience that leans into grocery essentials and price sensitivity, complementing the uptick in at-home cooking. #inflation #retailmedia #grocery

We have two questions for you ... 🍕 🍦 1) Do you eat more ice creams in summer or in winter? 2) Did you know that supermarkets are very well-aware of this too? Probably your answers are: 1) Obviously in summer 🌞 2) Uhhh, yeah that would make sense, but I'm not to sure how or why that matters... Well as straightforward it is to understand that we all eat more ice cream in summer - because together with sunscreen and warm weather it is a core ingredient of the summer holiday vibe - explaining how supermarkets deal with seasonality is a bit more complex. But we will give it a go: 🔃 Every year, there are fixed moments where a supermarket decide to change the lay-out of its shelves. So-called shelf-mutation moments. These can either be big (changing the entire supermarket set-up) or small (changes within a product category only). 🌦️ Based on a.o. buying and consumption behaviour of shoppers influenced weather and seasons, the lay-out of different product categories will then be changed. As you can imagine, in winter people are more tempted to get some hot comfort food, such as pizza, instead of ice cream. So you would see that there are more pizzas stocked in supermarkets' freezers and that there is literally less space for ice creams during winter (and the other way around for summer). 🍧 Of course, there are still people who would love to get some ice cream during a rainy afternoon Netflix & chilling in December, and if they do, chances are high that they go for a pint of Ben & Jerry's instead of Solero's. So the ice creams that are included in supermarket's frozen assortment in wintertime, are more likely to be pints than popstickles. 🎥 And.. if all Home Alones, Harry Potters or LOFTRs are going to be available online between Christmas and NYE, people might want to stack up on those pizzas and ice cream pints and get some 1+1 promos in. As you can see, seasonality is something that you should take into consideration while setting up your product introduction and launching plans. Having your product available in the supermarket at the right time, with the right promotion and in the right quantity, is essential for the success of your sales. Do you know when your products should be most prominent in store? And to what extent could you maybe face some competition from not only competitor brands, but entire product categories? ❓ Within a few weeks time we will launch a FREE customer planning tool, called the Customer Calendar, tailored to the needs of impact-driven entrepreneurs in the food(service) industry. Helping you bring together all the elements needed to effectively plan your customer activities and boost your sales. Stay tuned and happy weekend! #foodforthought #friday #startup #supermarket #retail #foodbusiness #routetobloom #foodstartup #retailknowledge #smarttools #saleshack #salesboost #promoplanning #impactdriven

Private Label is a rising force in the food industry. Here are a few reasons why: 🌟 Affordable Excellence: Private Label products offer high value at a lower cost, serving as the "dupe" for popular brand names. 🌟 Enhanced Value: These brands provide healthier and more sustainable alternatives to traditional options, often delivering taste that rivals or exceeds that of well-known brands. 🌟 Strategic Investment: Private Label brands are investing in marketing, insights, nutrition, and culinary expertise, enabling them to develop competitive products and often introduce innovative foods, beverages, and flavors before the established brands. 🌟 Premium Quality: They also offer premium-quality products and packaging that cater to the demand for everyday indulgence at an accessible price point. 🌟Customization and Flexibility: Private labels can quickly adapt to consumer trends and preferences, offering customized products that reflect current market demands.
American shopping habits are shifting due to changing grocery prices. The latest Circana data shows shoppers are favoring generic brands to manage inflation and splurging on high-end items instead of dining out. Full article here: https://lnkd.in/gt5RFU9q
