1 month later 🙋♀️ Third term has started in Kenya. The community sent us a video, with the little ones in front of “their” trusted school building. Full of energy, joy and eagerness. Hope they hardly realize that this will be the last term here. At this side of the globe, we continue our mission. It’s the right thing to do. It’s meaningful and it’s just what needs to get done. Because we can make a difference for humankind in one of the many less fortunate parts of the world. If you’re interested in knowing what “fortunate” looks like across the globe: https://lnkd.in/ec_HHXwk you can compare how rich you are compared to the rest of the world. 😉 (sneak peek: it’s incredible. With an average income, living in a high-income country like Belgium or The Netherlands you fall somewhere between the top 1 - 5% of income earners worldwide. Half of the world population survives with less than $7/day 👀 which is the case in Kenya as well) What if the top 1-5% donated? The world would look quite different ❤️ Sooooo. Where are we now? Amount wise we’re at 26% towards our first goal: buying the plot. We’re proud but it goes without saying it is bloody hard work to keep the stream in the fundraising going. Connecting with and enlarging personal networks, touching base with bigger professional foundations, do applications for fundings,… lots of these take time, must undergo internal screening etc etc. Each extra support, mail in network, connecting fundraiser activity on the Whydonate site,… is so so só welcome 🍀 feel free to contact me or Anke Noordhoek 1-1 (as some of you already did) ♡ https://lnkd.in/eChKQNsi
now in English, on demand of this fabulous network 💌 🎉 (and a humble first celebration as we reached over 10% of our first goal: buying the plot! - grateful for your support until now) dear friends, colleagues and network, Never before have I made this kind of call on LinkedIn. A professional network asks for more professional posts, comments and likes, right? A first time for everything. And it's not all so black and white, either. I was volunteering in a slum in Mombasa for a while about six months ago. In theory, I was out of 'office' but learning every day. In terms of interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills, as well as in entrepreneurship and leadership development. It was by far the most exciting step on my journey so far, and I wish everyone a similar experience. Just as an intro. I was teaching at the Rays of Hope community school at that time. Now they - and we - desperately need your help. 240 children will soon be left without a school and hence education because the community is losing the lease on the school building. The school is a super-important part in the whole value chain of social, community and economic development. That doesn't need much more explanation. Together with Anke Noordhoek, who got there a few weeks after me, I set up a crowdfunding campaign. We need a plot of land and then we want to build a school. Step by step. We believe in the community for 200% and are going to support them in this, so that they can move forward in a sustainable way. What we are planning to do, how we will go about it in practice, the agreements we have with the community and how the donations will be spent: you can read all about it here: https://lnkd.in/ea8igqJr Do you join us in making a difference? Do we (literally) shift a stone and build that school together? Any amount is welcome. Taking the time to read this and pause is kind, sharing this post and donating is even better.
