Last week, the Danish Maritime Authority participated in the 109th meeting of the Maritime Safety Committee at IMO 🌍⚓ The main topics included the ongoing work on the 'non-mandatory' MASS Code (Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships), the development of a Safety Regulatory Framework for ships using new technologies and alternative fuels, and the serious situation in the Red Sea. In addition, the Committee approved amendments to the IGC, IGF, and LSA Codes, as well as new guidelines for the use of ammonia as a marine fuel. A special moment during the week was the IMO Awards ceremony, where Captain E.V. Tijssen of the M/V Maersk Brownsville received special recognition for the extraordinary rescue of 41 migrants in the Mediterranean. The nomination was a joint initiative by Denmark and the Netherlands. On Wednesday, the 4th, Maersk presented the world’s first methanol-fuelled mainliner, Ane Mærsk, in the IMO plenary.
