Interesting move. With the challenges already faced by the collision repair industry, further hindering the ability to develop new technicians seems at first to be counterproductive. Then again, perhaps this gives more attention to the apprentice. Could this increase completion rates in apprenticeship to journeyperson advancement. What’s your opinion, mine is changing still as I write!!✍️ #FixNetwork #SkilledTrades #ATA
It’s a matter of numbers. A depleting and retiring pool of mentors. An increasing demand for replacements. The government decreases the potential rate of replacement. It’s math. Tipping point has come and gone. There are many ways to increase health and safety and training in the workplace.
Thanks for sharing. The retirements outpace new hires 2:1 and we are desperately in need of apprentices and mentors to develop their skills
Good point Daryll. Certainly something that must be considered going forward.
Same as you at first. But with completion of programs being so low I’m hopeful this step might incentivize and inspire them to see it through.

2moWith the complexity of our trade it is very difficult for a journeyman to properly train more than one tech at time, especially in a production setting. More robust collage programs would allow many techs to be trained at once in a controlled environment.
