At the recent Invest Johor 2024, Johor Menteri Besar YAB Dato' Onn Hafiz Ghazi reaffirmed the state government's commitment to ensuring the success of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). JCorp President and Chief Executive YBhg Datuk Syed Mohamed Ibrahim underscored the JS-SEZ’s potential for driving economic growth, infrastructure development, and nurturing skilled talent. He said that JCorp is enhancing regional capabilities through the Johor Skills program and partnerships with institutions like the Penang Development Centre and Singapore's Institute of Technical Education, aligning education with industry needs. As Johor’s principal development institution, JCorp is spearheading transformative projects to maximise the potential of the JS-SEZ. Among these initiatives is the development of Ibrahim Technopolis (iBTEC), a 7,000-acre smart industrial township focused among others on Life Sciences, Smart Logistics, E & E, and Food Tech. In January, Singapore and Malaysia signed the JS-SEZ memorandum of understanding, outlining key initiatives for establishing the economic zone. The Johor Fast Lane concept, designed to reduce bureaucratic red tape in business dealings, has proven instrumental in attracting investors. In 2023, Johor successfully lured 30 investors across four local councils through this initiative, which initially launched with the Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) and later expanded to other councils. Four local councils—Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB), Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP), Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG), and MPKu—have aggressively implemented the concept. Menteri Besar Johor also reassured investors of Johor's ample electricity and water supply. Ranhill SAJ, the state's sole water operator, has confirmed that industrial water needs are sufficient for the short and medium term.
