🎥 Fascinating video: Wild horses come back to the Danube Delta 🐎 🐎 Wild horses from Latvian reserves settled in the #DanubeDelta in 2019-2020 to enhance natural grazing as part of #rewilding efforts, supported by the Endangered Landscapes & Seascapes Programme. While grazing, rolling, and digging, they create meadows that attract birds, insects, amphibians, and other animals. They also provide space for a variety of plants to grow and help control excessive vegetation, reducing the risk of fires. Horse dung attracts specific fungi and dung beetle species, and digested seeds germinate within it. 🍄 🦋 🌱 Horses strip vegetation close to the ground, so when combined with water buffalo, the impact of natural grazing is even greater. GIANT MOUNDS. In the animal world, termites make the tallest structures proportionate to body size. This gigantic mound was made by Cathedral Termites (Nasutitermes triodiae), a grass-eating termite species that can be found in the northern tropics of Australia. Their mounds, constructed from mud, plant parts, and termite saliva and feces, sometimes could reach a whopping 8 meters tall. The mound is made of hollow columns that allows for internal circulation of air from the cooler soil at the base of the mound to the warmer top. This clever ventilation provides a central air-conditioning system that enables the colony to remain relatively cool even when the outside temperatures are very hot. #termites #nature #travel #insects

Cape Buffalo Facts #buffalo Buffalo rarely have twins. Buffalo’s kill more hunters than any other species. Buffalo are truly good swimmers. Buffalo’s are large and may reach 6.8 to 11 feet in length. Up to 5.6 height and weigh in at between 660 to 1900 pounds. Buffalo’s have smooth tongues. Buffalo are known to kill Lions. The Hide may be as thick as 2 inches thick in certain parts. Cape Buffalo have 4 times the strength of an Ox. Buffalo are grazers and feed mainly on grass. Poor eyesight and hearing however incredible sense of smell. Male: Bull - 650 to 800 kg. Female: Cow - 550 to 700 kg The African or Cape Buffalo are not related to the slightly larger Wild Water Buffalo of Asia. For more than 100 million years, marine turtles have covered vast distances across the world's oceans, and have been an integral part of tropical coastal ecosystems. Over the past 200 years, human activities have tipped the scales against the survival of these ancient mariners. World Turtle Day day is celebrated to raise awareness among people to protect turtles and tortoises and their disappearing habitats around the world. Tortoises and turtles play an important role in the ecological design of Earth. These reptiles are known to survive and thrive across a range of diverse habitats around the globe. World Turtle Day Theme This year’s theme for World Turtle Day is “Shellebrate”. The theme asks “everyone to Love and Save Turtles”. World Turtle Day History There wouldn’t have been any World Turtle Day if the American Tortoise Rescue (ATR) didn’t start it. This nonprofit organisation was established in 1990 and it started marking World Turtle Day in 2001. This is the 22nd International World Turtle Day that they are celebrating. The organisation, founded by Susan Tellem and her husband Marshall Thompson, has rescued and re-sheltered more than 4,000 turtles and tortoises.

Carrizo Plain? Say whaaat??? This is a huge plain in Central California, in the southeastern part of San Luis Obispo County. It is not too far a drive from the Los Angeles area, yet it remains a hidden gem much of the time. Carrizo Plain is wilderness, with not many services, and hence it is mainly overlooked by visitors to the state. The exception is when there is a wildflower super bloom, which gets widely reported in the local media, drawing large crowds to see the colorful bloom. While wildflower bloom is a good time to visit the monument, there are other things to do here, if you enjoy the outdoors. And because it is not on the main tourist trail, you can enjoy the offerings at the park in relative solitude. One of the best things to do in Carrizo Plain is hiking to view the San Andreas Fault, which caused the catastrophic San Francisco earthquake in 1906. At Carrizo Plain, the fault is clearly visible. Another thing to do here is to look for wildlife and birds. Carrizo Plain is home to many endangered species. Look for pronghorn deer, rabbits, and many species of birds, especially in the winter, when there is water in Soda Lake in the park. #amystravelservicesllc #carrizo #calitravel #california
