We are happy to share insights from Investing in Women (IW)'s summary note, which aims to highlight the business journeys, economic empowerment, and the effects of investments on women entrepreneurs in Southeast Asia🌏. This publication underscores the importance of supporting women-owned and -led small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and offers actionable recommendations for future impact investing in the region. IW-backed investments were secured by 52 women investees, who used the funds predominantly for scaling businesses 📈, starting new activities, and covering operational costs 💼. The investees experienced generally positive relationships with investors, gaining benefits such as technical assistance, networking opportunities, and enhanced credibility. The COVID-19 pandemic posed additional hurdles, especially with fundraising and cash flow 💰, but also offered opportunities for tech-enabled businesses. Despite anticipated economic challenges, most investees remain optimistic and plan to expand or diversify their businesses. On average, women rated their economic empowerment at 8.4 out of 10. This study was commissioned from DevLearn by Investing in Women. Based on data collected by Yuni Chairani, Madel Montejo, Ha Do Viet, and Investing in Women, the report was written by Naomi Falkenburg. Attending the African Women's Sustainability Conference hosted by ImpactHer was a transformative experience!!! With the theme "Igniting Africa’s Green Evolution: Equipping Women Entrepreneurs as Catalysts for Sustainable Growth and Access to Eco-Financing Solutions," The event featured brilliant speakers and panelists from across Africa discussing eco-friendly business practices, emotional resilience in entrepreneurship, and funding opportunities. 🌱 In the evolving landscape of green business, women entrepreneurs are at the forefront, leading the charge towards sustainability and innovation.  ❔However, this journey comes with its own set of unique challenges  Let's dive into what businesswomen face in the green business sector:    ◾ Access to Funding: Securing investment for sustainable initiatives can be tough, especially for women-led businesses. Green projects often require significant capital, and gender biases can further complicate funding access.  ◾Balancing Roles: Many businesswomen juggle multiple roles at home and work, making the demanding transition to sustainable practices even more challenging.  ◾Networking: Building connections in the predominantly male-dominated green tech and sustainability sectors can be difficult. Access to mentors and industry leaders is crucial but often limited.  ◾Market Skepticism: Despite growing awareness, there is still skepticism about the profitability and feasibility of green businesses. Convincing stakeholders of the long-term benefits can be a tough sell.
