One of the biggest challenges with bringing AI into education is the high cost of implementation. Schools, especially those with tighter budgets, often can't afford the upfront investment needed for AI technology, infrastructure, and training. This can widen the gap between well-funded schools that can adopt AI and those that can’t, leaving many students without access to the latest educational tools. 🤖 To truly unlock AI's potential in education, we need to find ways to lower these costs. Whether through partnerships, subsidies, or more affordable solutions, making AI accessible to all schools is crucial for closing the educational divide. #GenerativeAI

Small language models seem to be a step in that direction, though yes controlling cost is an issue. Research grants may help to address funding, though there is still the need to hire/train staff to support - not to mention security and data governance as a source of concern. As with “the cloud” (in higher ed at least), cost has been the/thee driving factor to adoption.
