What to expect on Awards Night: Many people think Awards Ceremonies are just for finalists, however, that’s not necessarily true. Of course, a ceremony wouldn’t be complete without these people, but an awards night is so important for so many reasons. Firstly, they act as a great way to entertain your staff, letting them blow off steam after a long and busy year. You can also use it as a way of thanking clients for all of their support throughout the previous 12 months. Secondly, it’s great for networking. It’s not often that you can be in a room with hundreds of your peers, so see it as a chance to network. Find out what other people are doing well (and not so well) and make contacts for the future. You never know when knowing an extra contractor will come in handy. Thirdly, it’s a great way to boost team morale. So many hours are spent onsite/in offices with a disproportionate amount of time spent having fun outside of work. Change that by attending an industry awards night together and having some fun – and maybe add the cherry on top by winning a Silver or Gold Award in one of the various categories. This year, the National Building and Construction Awards will be held at the Leonardo Royal Hotel, Tower Bridge, London on Thursday, October 24th, with a three-course meal, wine and fantastic entertainment included in the ticket price. Great to be part of this event panel last week with Vinay Parmar and Tim Threipland, talking about how businesses rebuild trust after a crisis and public scrutiny. Three key takeaways from our conversation: 👏 Consumers want to purchase from brands that leverage their influence to encourage social impact, who aspire to raise the bar for business behaviour 🤝 Communities want businesses in their areas that support charity, education and environmental initiatives, and partner with local government to drive growth and create better places to live. 🫶 Colleagues want to work for organisations that can evidence an inclusive culture, built on mutual respect. And where do organisations need to focus to build deeper levels of trust, to evidence their competence and character? 1. Strong leadership – Board, ExCo and Senior Leadership teams all aligned, and leading by example to lay the foundations of strong, purpose driven ethical business   2. Individual accountability – building an inclusive culture rooted in trust is the responsibility of everyone in the organisation, not just something that your HR team does for you. Trust is mutual and needs to be co-created.   3. Courage – to do things differently, to make tough decisions, to acknowledge mistakes and most importantly, to never underestimate the power of an apology.
