A supportive work environment involves a workplace where employees have good relationships with one another, good communication, and there is clear and fair leadership on board. A strong correlation exists between a supportive work environment and job satisfaction among veterinary profesionals that can lead to increased work commitment and effort shown by employees at work. This leads to increased productivity, better physical and mental wellbeing for the employee, and less staff turnover for the employer. High work-related stress and low job satisfaction among veterinary professionals can lead to many adverse outcomes for individuals and the practice, such as higher rate of decreased work performance, and increased frequency of errors and accidents at work. A supportive work environment can act as a buffer against stresses and strains in an individual's personal and professional life because the camaraderie and concern for one another that occurs in a supportive work environment can lead to emotional, instrumental, and informational support for employees during hard times. This can be seen as an investment for both the employer and the employee, leading more dedication to the practice and more effecient employees, showing how important this is in preventing staff turnover and keeping employees satisfied in their current position. Just a thought. What do you think?

“Unpredictable and uncontrollable” is a difficult way to describe the reasons why vets are leaving. I believe it’s an incorrect way to look at things that doesn’t factor in the millions of reasons vets have to leave. Veterinary as a whole is in a difficult spot - there just isn’t enough time & vets to help all the animals that need care. There are different solutions for time, Mlemo included. What needs a more robust and systemic solution is the amount of vets currently in practice. Maybe if we recognised the issue is partly the culture, partly how we handle educating vets (only 1 university in Ireland has a suitable course! a lot of future vets have to go to the UK or other EU countries as there just isn’t enough places in that course for everyone that wants to attend it), and all the other factors; we could try coming up with some other solution that fixes things longer term. I’m open to conversation about this, feel free to comment or DM your thoughts.

Last week was the Veterinary Cardiovascular Society conference. A great opportunity for high level cardiology CPD (even if a lot of it went straight over my head), networking and catch ups with other cardiology minded vet folks. Wow, the cardiologists can really drink! Cheese and wine, 2 pre- dinner drinks vouchers and copious wine on the table. The internal medics are tame in comparison (or perhaps we subconsciously know the effect on our liver, pancreas etc). #VeterinaryCPD #vetCPD #VeterinaryCardiology #VetArtisUK #VeterinaryEchocardiology

Our portable #PCRsmart and proprietary test panel helped accurately diagnose the cause of diarrhea in a dog. It took us just three hours to determine the bacteria responsible for the infection, including sample collection, logistics, testing and communication with the vet. Thanks to our technology, the vet selected the right antibiotic, and the dog's condition visibly improved less than a day after the medication was prescribed. Pet veterinary medicine is another area of future application of the compact and remarkably fast #rtPCR molecular diagnostics platform we have developed. 👉 With this: ☑ we will shorten the treatment time, and thus the discomfort of the animals - on-site testing will enable results to be obtained in up to 90 minutes (for the entire procedure); ☑ we will improve accuracy in well medication, contributing to the reduction of #AMR phenomenon ☑ by applying the platform to veterinary practices, we will increase the diagnostic and economic capabilities of clinics. A big round of applause for the brave patient #Pluto, fully recovered thanks to Vet supported by our molecular platform. #PCRsmart #Vets #FoodSafety #rtPCR #portableDiagnostics
