Inclusive sex education IS a human right 👏 and folks, of all genders, sexualities, race & faith deserve access to RSHE that reflects & represents them. As a sex educator I can see why these individuals fall for scams like this - because they aren’t provided with the knowledge needed to challenge these scams, and if professionals are telling you something a you’re more likely going to believe them & trust them. And you should be able to trust your doctor - but it’s vital to have your own information & so your own resource. But how can you when these resources aren’t made available, or you don’t have internet access, or you don’t even know how to begin the conversation. These poor individuals who are being scammed by these pregnancy scams would be better protected if they have access to inclusive RSHE. Of course, inclusive RSHE isn’t the only answer - we need to fight for reproductive rights alongside providing young people with sex education that will give them the tools to protect themselves from scams like this. RSHE saves lives. This is proof.

Empowering Women through Comprehensive Sex Education Sex education is a vital component of overall health and well-being, yet it remains a topic often shrouded in stigma and misinformation. For females, in particular, understanding their bodies and their health can lead to empowered decision-making and a better quality of life. Key Points to Consider: Understanding Reproductive Health: Knowledge about menstrual cycles, contraception options, and reproductive rights is essential. It allows women to make informed choices about their health and family planning. Consent and Communication: Teaching the importance of consent and open communication in relationships fosters respect and mutual understanding. It's crucial for creating safe and healthy relationships. Preventive Health Measures: Regular gynecological check-ups, HPV vaccinations, and understanding the signs of common health issues can prevent more serious conditions. Early detection and prevention are key. Mental and Emotional Well-being: Sex education isn't just about physical health; it also encompasses mental and emotional aspects. Addressing topics like body image, self-esteem, and relationship dynamics contributes to overall well-being. Access to Resources: Providing information about where to find reliable health resources, support services, and professional advice ensures that women have the help they need when they need it. By fostering an environment where women feel comfortable seeking information and asking questions, we can help break down the barriers that prevent many from receiving the education and care they deserve. Let's work together to ensure that every woman has the knowledge and tools to live a healthy, empowered life. #SexEducation #WomensHealth #Empowerment #HealthEducation #LinkedInLearning

What? Why are they doing this? Kids can't get a break these days with all the personal religious-driven governance lunacy going on. Forget the real world and all the dangers like std's, how to prevent a pregnancy, family planning, why and how their changing body works. That's not an education but primitive and ill-informed child abuse. Ron DeSantis bans Florida’s sex ed classes from mentioning anatomy & contraceptives All districts are now required to promote abstinence, exclude consent, and remove any pictures of reproductive organs. The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) has ordered local school districts to submit their sex education plans to the state for approval. The FLDOE has also said the classes must promote abstinence and cannot include discussion of contraception or pictures of reproductive health organs. The sex-ed takeover removes local discretion when it comes to district sex education classes and materials. Florida law has mandated that sex-ed lessons emphasize the “benefits of sexual abstinence as the expected standard and the consequences of teenage pregnancy” for grades 6 through 12. https://lnkd.in/e4g7einR

Read my latest piece "Let's Talk About Sex: The United States of Abstinence" on Artefact Magazine's website. Writing this article has opened my eyes to major flaws within the sexual education programs in the US. After much research, the only thing I can say is that we need to do better. As abortion access throughout the country continues to be restricted, it's so important that we implement a comprehensive sex education program nationwide. https://lnkd.in/efjMXWv5

15 years ago I was the first person to identify that when we don't talk openly and honestly about sex, p*rn becomes de facto sex education, in this TED Conferences talk with which I launched MakeLoveNotPorn: https://lnkd.in/e3e7gG6Z Today, we're finally raising funding to launch MakeLoveNotPorn Academy: https://lnkd.in/e3jbrak6 with the mission of organizing the world's sex education information, for children, young people, parents, teachers, adults, everybody, to provide education that, importantly, drives personal agency, and changes lives. The Anatomy of Pleasure hosted by SHIP Wednesday May 8th 4pm-6pm Pacific Tickets are available on a sliding scale ($15-$50) https://lnkd.in/gvvjUDdh While sex education in school usually focuses on reproductive function of the genitals, little attention is given to pleasure. This workshop explores the anatomy of the genitals and the whole body in the context of sexual pleasure, making space for Intersex, Trans, Neurodivergent, and Disabled bodies. Moving beyond the five basic senses we will explore a multitude of sensory experiences and an array of non-sexual pleasures. At the end of this workshop: attendees will be able to recognize and name at least three homologous genital structures. attendees will be able to identify at least five additional types of senses beyond the five commonly named senses. attendees will be able to integrate non-sexual forms of pleasure into their pleasure menu. A recording will be made available to everyone who registers for 14 days following the workshop. #Pleasure #Asexual #SexEducation

Hey LinkedIn Friends! I wanted to share this great CNN article that just came out "State lawmakers have targeted restricting sex education since the Dobbs ruling, especially in states banning abortion" highlighting both SIECUS and my work about the increase in attacks on sex education since the fall of Roe v. Wade. Since the Dobbs v. Jackson ruling throwing the access to abortion back to states, SIECUS has observed an alarming trend of legislation seeking to warp sex education to fit the ideals and beliefs of a small but loud, far-right minority that does not represent what most parents want for their kids: quality, medically-accurate, inclusive, and comprehensive sex education for all. Because conservative lawmakers have not found as much success in banning sex education outright, their next strategy is to make sex education fit their "standards" which means spreading harmful and stigmatizing disinformation about young people's bodies, reproductive decision-making, and relationships. This dangerous trend cannot continue as young people have a right to education in which they see themselves represented and is factual and complete so that their future health and well-being can be secured. Sex education advocates, especially at the state and local level, must defend against such attacks and mobilize supporters to show up against these bills while promoting positive legislation that would ensure a sex-positive future for all. Do give it a read and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments or repost! https://lnkd.in/gtDnRP6C
