This initiative is vital to driving sustainability and supporting the energy transition across the continent. At our recent project meeting in Leipzig, Germany, we made significant progress in developing cutting-edge recycling technologies. The EURECOMP project unites 20 leading research institutions, including the Silesian University of Technology, and focuses on reducing the environmental footprint in sectors such as wind energy, aerospace, and automotive. It is necessary to explore what the future could look like so that we drive change in the right direction.   Thanks Christopher Lyrhem for an inspiring presentation at Semcon Skills Days on your views on the future.   A future where disruptive technologies drive a new sharing economy, and many of producing companies shift from selling products to selling services. In such business models the incentives shift from selling as many units as possible to producing as few units as possible and keeping them in use as long and as efficiently as possible. Moving from ownership to usership.   Enabling a CIRCULAR ECONOMY.   Renewable energy and electrification are necessary for the transition into a net-zero economy. But the extraction and processing of materials is responsible for 55 % of emissions, 90 % of biodiversity loss and 90 % of water consumption (Source: UNEP Global Resources Outlook 2024). Hence, a shift to a circular economy is key for the shift to a net-zero economy as well as a key solution to halt biodiversity loss, water stress and pollution.   To remain competitive, companies need to combine their digital transformation agenda with their sustainability transformation agenda. Using digital solutions to explore user centric and profitable business models that enables the shift to a net-zero and circular economy, while at the same time securing an ethical and sustainable digital transformation (with minimal emissions energy and resource consumption). A twin transition.   A challenge for companies in linear business models. But at the same a HUGE opportunity. CeNTI participates in the development of more sustainable batteries Based on its vast know-how, the Centre has sought to respond to the current energy sector challenges, creating disruptive energy storage solutions, contributing to reducing demand for critical natural resources and reducing the carbon footprint associated with new battery production. The research lines are based on the need to reduce dependence on critical raw materials through the use of more sustainable materials for incorporation into lithium-based batteries and new battery technologies, such as sodium batteries. In addition, incorporating recycled materials into manufacturing different battery components reinforces the commitment to achieving innovative and environmentally conscious products.
